Spotlight on Learning - OAK

In Oak classrooms, we had a wonderful start to this term. We successfully implemented the InitiaLit program for our students, fostering early literacy skills and boosting confidence in reading.
In Oak 3, Mathematics came to life this week as students dove into the world of 3D shapes. After mastering the basics of how to tell a flat 2D shape apart from a solid 3D one, the class became expert "shape detectives." The students spent time identifying and counting the specific features that make each shape unique. To put their new knowledge to the test, the classroom turned into a colourful construction zone! Using paper nets, scissors, and glue, the students built their own 3D models. Seeing the students' hard work take shape (literally!) was a highlight of the start of this term.
In Oak 2, students have been spending time learning about different types of informative texts. Through engaging activities and collaborative discussions, they've learned how to distinguish between fact and opinion. Through a range of creative activities and discussions, students have explored how writers use descriptive language and symbolic meanings to enhance their texts. It has been great to see the participation of Oak 1 and 2 students in this lesson.
In Oak 1, students have been busy building their skills in both English and Maths. In English, we have been strengthening our reading and spelling skills through the InitiaLit program. We have also been learning about digraphs and using this knowledge to identify sounds in words and improve our decoding skills.
In mathematics, we have been engaging in hands-on learning experiences using concrete materials to investigate arrays, grouping, and multiplication. These activities have helped us build confidence in recognising equal groups and applying multiplication strategies. Everyone has shown enthusiasm, curiosity, and a positive attitude throughout all learning activities.
