Athletics Day
Late last term our students and staff had a great day on the field and track at the annual Athletics Day. A huge congratulations to the Red Devils who were the winners on the day, after 8 years of the Blue Sharks taking home the win.

Year 6 to Year 7 Placement Process – 2027
The Department of Education is progressively introducing Student Insight, a new online platform that will replace CASES21 as the student information and enrolment system. In 2026, a select number of primary and secondary schools in the North Eastern Victoria Region (NEVR) and South Eastern Victoria Region (SEVR) will use Student Insight to manage the Year 6 to Year 7 placement process.
Lowanna College will not be participating in the Student Insight pilot in 2026. The College will continue to manage Year 6 to Year 7 placements using the existing process.
The enrolment process for students entering Year 7 at Lowanna College in 2027 is as follows:
- Placement forms are to be completed and returned to your child’s primary school.
- Primary schools will forward all relevant placement forms to Lowanna College.
- Lowanna College will notify primary schools of any unsuccessful initial placement requests.
- Lowanna College will confirm with primary schools all students who have been successfully placed.
- Enrolment packs will be distributed to all students who have been accepted into Year 7 for 2027.
- Parents are to return completed enrolment forms and other required documentation directly to Lowanna College.
Families are encouraged to complete and return placement forms to their child's primary school by the required deadline to ensure a smooth transition to secondary school.

Education Week 2026
Our school is celebrating Education Week 2026 from Monday 18 May to Friday 22 May.
This year’s theme is ‘Showcase your school’, encouraging school communities to celebrate what’s great about their school.
It's also a great opportunity to be grateful and reflect on how fortunate we are as a community and country to have access to quality education, every day.
At Lowanna, we offer students a variety of learning opportunities and programs to support and enhance their learning. These include the Lowanna Sports Academy, Lowanna Institute of the Arts, Green Tradies, Blue Edge, literacy intervention, Koorie Program, Careers guidance and much more!
Bus Update
Coloured School Bus Passes to be implemented
We will be introducing a colour coded School Bus Pass where students will be required to show their bus pass to the driver or bus duty staff before boarding in order to gain access to their school bus. Each bus service will have its own allocated colour.
There has been a slight delay in distributing the cards and a recent miscommunication which caused a number of issues for students. We apologise for the inconvenience caused. Please note that we will be staggering the roll out of the passes to students over this week and next.
The new bus passes will be provided only to registered school bus travelers from Lowanna College and will be distributed to our busy Moe Bus travelers first, then Yallourn North, followed by the remaining school buses.
These bus passes are in addition to student ID cards and will be very important for school bus travel as the philosophy will be 'no coloured pass, no travel.'
If a student does not receive a School Bus Pass it is either because a school bus application form has not been submitted to register the student or they have been requested to use public transport and will therefore not be on our school bus roll.
The school buses are for residents only. Students who have been boarding the school buses without permission to travel to work or sports practice must use the public transport available.
Students should take care of their School Bus Passes - they must have it to travel and if the pass is lost, a replacement can be arranged for a charge of $10.
Should you have any queries regarding the School Bus Passes or registering your student to a school bus, please do not hesitate to contact Mel Magnuson, Bus Coordinator, on 03 5127 9200 or via lowanna.co@education.vic.gov.au as soon as possible.

Science Club Update
Please be advised that Science Club will no longer be running at lunchtime this year.
LIA Update
The year so far....
This year, students in the Lowanna Institute of the Arts (LIA) program have been actively engaged in a rich range of collaborative and community-connected arts experiences.
Visual Arts students visited a local nursing home where they respectfully represented the school while developing interview techniques and portraiture skills. Each student is creating a formal portrait of a resident, strengthening observational drawing, empathy and communication skills through this meaningful intergenerational project.
Visual Arts students have also played a key role in the production, designing and painting large-scale sets and creating props to support the musical’s visual storytelling.
Drama and Performing Arts students have been working alongside Michelle from Amaka Creative, who has led professional choreography workshops in preparation for the school musical. Students participating in stage performance workshops have been rehearsing scenes, learning choreography and refining performance skills.
Music students have been preparing for an upcoming performance at Narracan Gardens Retirement Village, planning and rehearsing a complete performance program inspired by their recent excursion to Melbourne to see MJ: The Musical. This includes several Michael Jackson pieces, allowing students to connect professional performance experiences to their own musical practice.
Adding to the program, local artist Darcie White visited Visual Arts students to share insights into her professional practice and recent work, including her portrait of Cameron Smith created for the Archibald Prize.
Finally, LIA Music students are excited to begin mentoring NEPS Year 5/6 students, teaching them how to play instruments and collaboratively create a shared performance for both schools. These experiences highlight the strength of the Lowanna Institute of the Arts in fostering creativity, collaboration, community connection and real-world learning opportunities for students.

Students enjoyed a tour at Australian Sustainable Hardwoods, learnt about how Southern Rural Water manage water allocations and went to The Berry Dairy for some berry picking. They also had a chance to hit the trails around Blores Hill. These experiences provide valuable insights into outdoor relationships.
