Principal's Update

Dear Families,

Welcome back to Term 2. It’s already been very busy and the year seems to be flying.

As the days become cooler, it’s such a temptation to pull the sheets over the head and go back to sleep.  I would like to encourage you to work with your children and ensure regular attendance. This makes such a big difference, more than you might realise. Missing just one day each fortnight adds up to four full weeks of lost learning across a year, that’s a month of classes, friendships, routines and opportunities that students simply can’t get back. When students attend school every day, they’re able to take part in what truly counts; building strong learning habits, connecting with peers, enjoying the fun of school life and developing the skills that shape their future. Thank you for supporting your child to be at school, every day, ready to learn.

We were delighted to welcome our 2027/28 Grade 5 and Grade 6 students to the College last week. Their energy and enthusiasm were infectious, and they embraced every part of the day. They enjoyed outstanding musical performances from our talented students, which were a real highlight. They also immersed themselves in hands‑on maths, sports, humanities and science activities during our library expo and got to see what fantastic things they could make in technology.  I think their heads must have been spinning with all the information.  The day concluded with a well‑attended information evening, rounding off a successful and memorable experience for our future learners.

We held our first assembly for Term 2 in Week 2 and once again our students demonstrated outstanding respect throughout, a real credit to you.  We continued to explore the important theme of being an upstander rather than a bystander when things are going wrong and we reinforced our ongoing message about the value of regular attendance. Our school leaders were acknowledged, as were the recipients of our sporting awards.  A highlight of the assembly was a fantastic performance of ‘Valerie’ by two of our talented students, it was sensational.  I am always in awe of the skills and hidden talents our students bring to this community. We should all be proud.

Students in Years 7–10 recently attended the ‘One Punch Can Kill’ presentation, which explored some very serious and important themes around violence and personal responsibility. The session encouraged students to think carefully about the choices they make and the impact those choices can have on their own lives and the lives of others. We will continue to build on these messages through our wellbeing programs, assemblies, home group and classroom discussions, helping students develop the skills, awareness and empathy they need to keep themselves and others safe.  We appreciate your support in continuing these conversations at home, reinforcing the importance of respectful behaviour and safe choices.

A reminder that our school’s mobile phone expectations remain in place to support focused learning and positive social interactions. Students are required to keep their phones locked in their lockers from the beginning of the day until the end. AirPods and headphones must not be worn during the school day unless specific arrangements have been made with families. We appreciate your support in encouraging healthy phone habits at home, helping students balance screen time with sleep, study and face‑to‑face connection.

Have a wonderful week.

Yours sincerely,

Bernadette Cropper
