Year 2 Echidnas and Platypuses
We are halfway through Term 2 and Year 2 students have settled into a steady rhythm of learning and growth.
In maths, we’ve been exploring the relationship between addition and subtraction and discovering how number facts connect and support each other.
Our writing lessons have focused on describing settings, with students using rich detail to bring their story worlds to life. In science, we’ve been busy building bridges and investigating what makes structures strong and stable.
For HASS, we’ve been learning about the history of Optus Stadium and why it is such an important part of Perth. Students have also been enjoying all the outdoor play options available at recess and are showing growing responsibility by helping to tidy and care for our shared outdoor spaces.
During library, Mrs Rocca has been telling us all about Luna Roo and the upcoming simultaneous story time. We are all very excited to wear our soccer jerseys on Wednesday, read the story and do some fun activities based on Luna Roo by Adrian Lloyd and Adam Jackson.
Year 6 Brolgas & Emus
It has been a busy and exciting few weeks in Year 6! One of our biggest highlights was our recent camp experience, where we had a wonderful time stepping outside of the classroom, building stronger friendships and creating lasting memories together. Camp provided many opportunities for students to challenge themselves, work collaboratively and further develop their leadership skills in new and meaningful ways. It was fantastic to see their resilience, independence and encouragement of one another throughout the experience.
In Mathematics, we have been focusing on division, developing our understanding of efficient strategies to solve division problems and applying these skills in a variety of contexts. In English, we are thoroughly enjoying our class novel, Once by Morris Gleitzman. Through this engaging and thought-provoking text, students are exploring important themes while also learning about historical recounts, developing their understanding of how real events can be communicated through writing.
Our HASS learning has seen us exploring aspects of our shared Australian history, encouraging students to think critically about the events, perspectives and stories that have shaped our nation. In Religious Education, we have been learning about the Eucharist and its significance within our faith tradition. This learning will culminate in a special act of service, as our Year 6 students create something beautiful for our Year 4 friends who will soon be receiving their First Holy Communion. We look forward to another exciting few weeks of learning ahead!
