Design News
Our Year 8 Visual Communication Design students have recently completed an exciting branding task, where they developed a visual identity for a business of their choice. Throughout the project, students explored logo design, typography, colour selection and layout to create cohesive brand concepts. Their final designs were professionally transferred onto drink bottles and small backpacks, allowing students to see their branding come to life on real products. It was wonderful to see the creativity and individuality demonstrated across the class.
Year 10 Art and Design students have been exploring printmaking and brochure design through a project inspired by Indigenous art and design practices. Students researched a range of Indigenous artists and used this inspiration to develop repeating patterns and imagery for a screen-printing task. They then applied their designs to create a small brochure promoting either an event or art classes. This project encouraged students to combine both manual and digital design processes while considering audience, layout and visual communication techniques.
Our Year 11 Visual Communication Design students have begun working on their Japanese-inspired Bento Box designs as part of their unit exploring “Designs Influence and Influences on Design.” Students are investigating how cultural traditions, aesthetics and food presentation can influence contemporary product design. Through research and ideation, they are developing creative packaging concepts that combine functionality with strong visual appeal.
Art News
The Art room has been buzzing with creativity across all year levels this term already!
Our Year 7 students have recently completed their Drawing Unit, where they explored oil pastel and sgraffito line work, and composition. Students have now enthusiastically transitioned into ceramics, beginning to learn foundational hand building techniques in clay as they prepare to create their own playful and imaginative Kenny Pittock inspired ice cream sculptures.
Year 8 students are currently completing the final stages of under glazing their vibrant Yayoi Kusama inspired ceramic sculptures. It has been wonderful to see students experimenting with colour, pattern, repetition, and surface decoration techniques while developing confidence in ceramic processes.
Meanwhile, our Year 9 Visual Arts students have been hard at work painting their skate decks. Students have explored personal themes, contemporary artists, and creative compositions to transform functional objects into highly individual artworks. The studio has been filled with colour, creativity, and some incredibly detailed designs.
Art Club has also been in full swing this term, with students participating in a wide variety of creative projects. From painting and drawing to collaborative works, experimental crafts, creating DnD maps and personal passion projects, the space continues to be a vibrant and welcoming environment for students to explore their creativity outside of the classroom.
