Leadership @ MPS

Every Day Counts - Attendance Matters 📚✨
Regular school attendance has a powerful impact on learning - and even small amounts of time away can quickly add up.
📌 1 day missed per fortnight = 20 days per year
📌 That’s 4 full weeks of learning lost in one year
📌 Across 7 years of primary school, that equates to almost half a year of schooling missed
Consistent attendance builds strong literacy and numeracy foundations, supports friendships and helps students feel confident and connected at school.
A reminder that before school yard supervision begins at 8:45am each morning, meaning students arriving befor this time should be accompanied by a parent/carer.
School Damage - Community Support Needed 🌿
We have recently noticed intrntial damage to both our oval and tennis court, which appears to have been caused by young people riding e-bikes or small motorbikes on these areas outside of school hours. There has also been some intentional damage to the tennis court area. As we all know, the oval is already in a challenging condition and we simply cannot afford any additional, unnecessary damage.
Our grounds are a shared community space and we are asking for everyone’s support in helping to protect them. If any community members witness intentional damage being caused, please contact police at the time - either 000 if it is happening then and there, or the Police Assistance Line on 131 444. Your vigilance makes a real difference in helping us care for our school environment.
Bike Safety in Our Local Streets 🚲
We have recently been contacted by Banyule Council’s Traffic and Transport team, who have shared concerns raised by local residents about the way some of our students are riding their bikes in Were Street and surrounding areas before and after school. As a school that prides itself on connection and community, this is disappointing to hear.
We have been actively addressing bike safety at school through bike education lessons in PE, dedicated incursions and reinforcing expectations with students, however we need family support to strengthen this message beyond the school gates. Please take a moment to speak with your child about riding safely, following road rules, being mindful of pedestrians and showing respect to local residents and property. Together, we can ensure our students represent our school with pride in the wider community.
Possible Industrial Action - Save the Date 📅
You may be aware that negotiations are currently underway between the Department and the Australian Education Union. As part of this process, there is the possibility of industrial action on Tuesday, 24 March. While nothing is confirmed at this stage, we wanted to provide families with an early heads up that, if it does proceed, school operations may look a little different on that day. We are hopeful for a positive resolution and will keep you informed as more information becomes available so you can plan accordingly.
