Grade 1/2 Classroom News! 🌼🌻

We have been doing some wonderful learning in our classroom!

Literacy 

We are using our mentor text The Imagineer to help us learn about nouns and verbs. We have been practising how to recognise nouns (naming words) and verbs. We have been discussing that verbs are not just action words; they can also show what we are doing, saying, thinking, and feeling. Students have been identifying nouns and verbs and creating their own sentences using them. I am so impressed with their creativity and growing confidence!

Maths

We have been working with tens frames and place value charts to help us understand how numbers are grouped. Students have been practising making numbers and showing them in different ways. One of our favourite activities was a game where we roll a dice to make a number and then represent it on a tens frame or a place value chart. It has been a fun way to build number knowledge!

Integrated Studies

We have been focusing on Managing Self. We have been talking about recognising our own strengths and setting personal goals. Each student cut out a set of personal strengths, and we reflected on each of these. We then sorted them into piles of "I always do this", "I do this sometimes" and "I do not often do this". Each student then chose a strength they would like to work on, thought about how they could improve it, and identified who could help them along the way. We even connected this to our mentor text The Imagineer by describing the strengths of the main character, Penny.

School Values

Last week, we completed worksheets on our school values. The worksheets helped us to figure out what each value is, how we show it in our classroom and school, and how we can show this at home or outside of school. This was a great reflection and a wonderful way to share our ideas with each other.

Show and Tell Roster

A quick reminder that Mrs Dallas will be back in our classroom Monday to Thursday as of next week. The kids have all been so great for my first four weeks with them, and it has been a wonderful start to the year. I am so proud of the thoughtful discussions, teamwork, and effort happening in our classroom each day.
