Faith and Mission

The start of the school year has been an opportunity for staff and students to begin to consider the 2026 theme for Marist schools in Australia: Full of Grace - Transform the World with God’s Love. At a time when we live in a world looking for peace, understanding and compassion, we are inspired to consider how we can make God’s love known. To answer the question, how, in the ordinary day-to-day of our lives, can we be people of compassion, gentleness and care?
Our heritage as a Catholic college is rich in history and our charism is informed by our Marist and Sion heritage. In recognising this we place great importance in sharing the story of Catholic College Sale with Year 7 students as they start the year. To this end the Year 7 students engaged in a Charism day on Friday 13 February. The day is facilitated by a range of staff who take enormous pride in sharing with the students important aspects of our heritage.
Year 12 Retreat
From Tuesday 3 February to Friday 6 February, our Year 12 students travelled to Gelantipy for four days of reflection, connection and renewal. Framed by the Gospel story of the Road to Emmaus, the retreat invited students to pause at this significant turning point in their lives and consider the journey that has brought them here and the one that lies ahead. There were moments of laughter, fun, quiet reflection, deep conversation and shared prayer. Students strengthened friendships, affirmed one another’s gifts and were reminded of the importance of community as they prepare for life beyond school. The retreat concluded with a strong sense of gratitude and belonging. We thank the staff who generously supported the experience and commend our Year 12 students for the maturity and openness they brought to the four days.
This week marks the beginning of the Liturgical Season of Lent. Lent begins with Ash Wednesday and lasts through until Easter. In the Catholic Church it is a time of reflection, a time to be humble and find ways to grow as people of God. As a College, we gathered on Ash Wednesday in three different locations to celebrate Ash Wednesday and mark the beginning of Lent.
Project Compassion Launch
On Tuesday 17 February, Catholic College Sale had the honour of hosting the Diocese of Sale launch of Project Compassion 2026 in St. Mary’s Cathedral. The prayer service was celebrated by the Bishop Greg Bennet and we welcomed a number of special guests from Caritas, the Diocese and DOSCEL. The event brought together student leaders from the Catholic Colleges in the Sale Diocese and from the local Wellington Catholic primary schools. Throughout the event our students excelled themselves. The Liturgical Choir, student leaders and some of the hospitality students ensured the launch was a resounding success. Project Compassion is the annual fund and awareness raising campaign for Caritas Australia that is held through the season of Lent. This year’s theme is Unite Against Poverty and students will learn more about the work of Caritas and how they enable people across the globe to improve their lives and their communities.
