Kitchen Garden

Our Year 3/4 students enjoyed a wonderfully busy and hands-on session in the garden last week. With curious minds, they explored, discovered and cared for our growing space.
We began by collecting seeds and learning how saving them helps us plan and prepare for future planting. We carefully cut back the cucumber and spinach plants. In doing so, the students learnt about the importance of pruning in maintaining healthy and productive plants.
A particularly exciting moment was discovering striking yellow and black ladybirds among the plants. This led to great discussions about beneficial insects and the important role they play in protecting our garden.
Students also sifted through our compost, observing how food scraps and garden waste break down into rich soil. They helped sweep pathways and explored each of our vegetable patches, taking time to investigate the different types of leaves they found. We talked about the vital role leaves play in plant growth, from absorbing sunlight to supporting the overall health of the plant.
It was a fantastic session full of enthusiasm, exploration, eagerness and lots of discovery.
