Swimming Carnival
Our first major sport event of 2026 was the House Swimming Carnival. This was attended by Year 4-6 students at the Maccabi Aquatic Centre at Bialik College on Tuesday 10th February. It was a fun-filled day where the four houses all showed great team spirit, enthusiasm and support for each other. Many families came down to support the swimmers. Thank you to all the parent volunteers who all supported the school and their children by helping to time and organise the swimming races. This year there were 50m races in Freestyle, Backstroke, Breaststroke and Butterfly, and a 25m Freestyle race for less confident swimmers. There was also a 10m swim for those students who are less comfortable in the water and wanted to earn points for their house. Cheering competitions were held where Corbett and McEvoy won points for being the most enthusiastic, though the most enthusiastic parent award should definitely go to Jo Haddock for her dancing and support. The results of the House Swimming Carnival were:
1st Place: Corbett - 270
2nd Place: McEvoy - 221
3rd Place: Fenton - 207
4th Place: Nugent - 133
On Tuesday 17th February the District Swimming Carnival was held at the Boroondara Sports Complex. Students who achieved a fast-qualifying time at the House Swimming were selected to compete at this event. These students represented the school by showcasing our school values of respect, resilience and partnership. Throughout the day there was illness and injury, which led to changes to swimming events and participation. Both Charlotte F and Harrison W showed great resilience by participating in relay teams above their age range and supporting the school and their schoolmates by having a go and doing their best. It was fantastic to see the school marquee with our students and so many parents and families gathering to cheer on Chatham, including our new 'Mascot' getting lots of attention from the Year 5 students. The students who achieved a top three place on the day were Jude K who came a 1st in the 50m Butterfly, Sophie H who came 3rd in the 50m Breaststroke and Harriet C who came 3rd in the 50m Butterfly. Jude K will attend the Division Swimming Carnival on Wednesday 4th March. We wish Jude all the best for this event and well done to all our students who competed at the House and District Swimming Carnivals.
