This Week At OOPS

It has been wonderful to see students returning to the library and settling back into borrowing routines with the support of Jennifer, Ruth, and our amazing volunteer library helpers. Classes have been busy selecting books for their classroom book boxes, as well as choosing texts to take home and enjoy. The library has been full of excitement as students explore new titles, revisit favourites, and build their love of reading for the year ahead. Ginger also enjoyed a session in the library with 1BG and listened to the story with the class beautifully!
A Great Start to Learning in Year 4!
We’ve had such a positive start to the year in Year 4. Students have been moving between rows for focused, explicit teaching and desk groups for rich discussions and teamwork.
When it was time to collaborate — especially while creating our classroom norms — students worked together to move the desks themselves. The way they communicated, problem-solved and supported one another was a wonderful example of teamwork in action. They then carefully set up the tables ready for our morning learning, showing real ownership of our classroom space.
It has been fantastic to see such responsibility, flexibility and enthusiasm so early in the year. We are off to a strong start!
Lunchtime Fun!
Lunchtime clubs have been in the spotlight this week, with students eagerly taking up opportunities to connect, create and unwind during break times. On Mondays at first break, the Friendship and Craft Club, led by Lewis and his Year 4 crew, was a hive of creativity and conversation. During the second break on Monday, Althea’s Meditation and Mindfulness Club provided a calm (and cool) space for students to relax and reset, with Ginger even joining in. It has been wonderful to see the strong interest in these indoor lunchtime options, particularly for students who find unstructured outdoor play challenging. Thank you to all staff who have supported the launch of our lunchtime clubs for Term 1.
Year 6 Camp
Our Year 6 students are having a fantastic time at Coonawarra Farm Resort in East Gippsland. We are looking forward to hearing all about it when they return tomorrow afternoon.
Breakfast Club
It was wonderful to see our first Breakfast Club up and running this week, giving students a healthy and positive start to the day. The space was full of friendly conversation, smiling faces, and students enjoying a nutritious breakfast together before heading off to class ready to learn.
A big thank you to the staff who generously gave their time to support the morning, and especially to our School Counsellor, Kate, who is leading and coordinating the Breakfast Club.
Fun Surprise
Our prep students had a lovely surprise when they entered the classroom this morning - some brand new fun furniture was waiting for them!
