Learning & Teaching

At St Joseph's, intervention is a targeted approach used to address students’ learning needs in specific areas where additional teaching and support may be required. Intervention includes both enabling and extension supports, ensuring all students are provided with learning opportunities that meet their individual needs. Through intervention, students are given focused opportunities to strengthen skills, build confidence, extend their thinking, and continue progressing in their learning.
To ensure students receive timely and responsive support, we implement intervention cycles throughout the year to monitor student progress, identify learning needs, and provide targeted teaching in specific areas. These cycles allow staff to regularly review student growth and adjust support where needed.
To support clear and consistent communication with families, Compass is now the main platform for communication regarding intervention cycles. Families will be notified through Compass if their child will be participating in an intervention cycle. At the completion of the cycle, communication will also outline whether the child has achieved success, will continue progressing within the intervention, or has not yet achieved the intended learning outcome, where a meeting will be arranged with the family to discuss their child’s next steps.
This process will provide families with a clear snapshot of their child’s progress and ongoing learning needs, while continuing to strengthen the partnership between home and school in supporting student learning.
