Year 3 Highlight

Our Year 3 students have been busy exploring the world of measurement in Maths! Over the past few weeks, we have been learning about metric units of length, including millimetres (mm), centimetres (cm), metres (m), and kilometres (km). Students have been developing their understanding of how and when to use each unit, as well as practising measuring objects accurately.

To bring this learning to life, we finished the unit with a fun and engaging hands-on activity. Students designed and created their own paper aeroplanes, then tested how far they could fly! Using their knowledge of measurement, they carefully measured and recorded the distance each plane travelled.

Students also worked in teams to design and build a ramp that would allow a toy car to travel the furthest distance possible. They experimented with different ramp heights, angles, and designs, then measured and compared how far their cars travelled. This encouraged students to apply their understanding of measurement, forces, and problem-solving in a creative and practical way.

There was lots of excitement as we compared results and discussed which aeroplanes flew the furthest and which ramp designs helped the cars travel the greatest distance, and why. It was wonderful to see students applying their learning in a practical way while also working collaboratively and thinking creatively.
