Grade 4 Camp Highlights

Our Grade 4 students had an unforgettable three days at Phillip Island Adventure Resort, filled with challenge, teamwork, and plenty of muddy, rainy fun. I was incredibly fortunate to attend camp this year and witness ourSt Mary’s core values of Respect, Responsibility, and Resilience, in action in the most genuine and inspiring ways.

Respect

Students consistently showed respect for each other, their instructors, the environment, and the camp spaces. Whether it was encouraging a peer on the giant swing, listening attentively during safety briefings, or helping pack up equipment or setting our dining tahle, their kindness and consideration were evident in every part of the day.

Responsibility

Every child took responsibility for themselves and their belongings, no small feat on camp. They organised their gear, followed instructions, and approached each activity with maturity. Not one student complained about completing a task, even when it meant doing it in the rain or stepping outside their comfort zone.

Resilience

Perhaps the most impressive quality on display was resilience. Students pushed through nerves, weather, and challenges with determination and optimism. They embraced new experiences, supported each other, and kept going even when things felt tough. Their positive attitude, especially during rainy activities, was a standout moment of pride for all staff.

What an incredile team....

Camp brought out the very best in our Grade 4 cohort. We saw teamwork in action during group challenges, shared cabins, meal times, and every activity that required cooperation. Students cheered each other on, problem‑solved together, and celebrated each other’s successes. Thank you, Year 4s, for your incredible teamwork, positivity, and the wonderful memories created.

A huge thank you to our teaching team; Mr Murphy, Ms Cardillo, Ms Draper, Mr Poly, and Ms Russell, for their energy, care, and commitment. Together we created an experience the students will remember for years to come.

Staying Healthy This Flu Season

As we head into the colder months, we often see an increase in colds, flu and other winter illnesses. The Royal Children’s Hospital has shared some helpful resources to support families in keeping children well this season.

Key reminders for families

  • The flu vaccine is the best protection for children, especially those aged 5 and under.
  • A needle‑free intranasal flu vaccine is now available for children who are anxious about injections.
  • Many common winter illnesses—like coughs, gastro and school sores (impetigo)—spread easily, so early treatment and staying home when unwell helps protect our community.
