From the Principal's Desk

It has been another busy and engaging fortnight across both campuses, with students continuing to immerse themselves in learning, community events and opportunities to connect with one another. It has been wonderful seeing so many students enthusiastically participating in activities that promote literacy, reflection, creativity and cultural understanding.

National Simultaneous Storytime

On Wednesday we proudly celebrated the 25th annual National Simultaneous Storytime. Students across both campuses joined schools and libraries around Australia in reading this year’s featured story, Luna Roo: The Kangaroo Baller by Adam Jackson, Adrian Lloyd, illustrated by Jake A Minton.

Across the school, students explored the story through a range of engaging activities including character building, costume creation, soccer games, illustrating scenes from the book and reflecting on moments where they experienced success or achieved a personal goal.

We love opportunities like this that promote a love of literacy in ways that students can actively investigate, explore and engage in.

Sorry Day and Reconciliation Week

On Tuesday, some of our School Captains attended the local National Sorry Day event at Monash Park alongside Senior Campus Assistant Principal, Dan.

Across both campuses, students also spent time learning about Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, the Stolen Generations and reflecting on the importance of truth-telling, healing and understanding. Students contributed to collaborative community art pieces as part of these reflections.

From 27 May to 3 June, we also recognise National Reconciliation Week. This year’s theme, “All IN,” reminds all Australians of the importance of continuing the journey toward reconciliation and ensuring the lessons of the past help shape a more respectful and inclusive future.

At Banmira, we remain committed to building a culturally safe environment where Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, families and cultures are valued, respected and celebrated.

King’s Birthday Public Holiday – Monday 9th June

A reminder to all families that Monday 9th June is the King’s Birthday Public Holiday. School, Early Education Program and HIOSHC will not operate on this day.

We hope families can use the long weekend as an opportunity to rest, recharge and enjoy some time together as we move further into the colder winter months.

2026 School Photos – Tuesday 16th June

Time to start booking in those haircuts! MSP Photography will be on-site on Tuesday 16th June for our annual school photos.

If you have not yet received your order envelopes, or have any questions regarding school photos, please contact our Administration Team.

Thank you to our students, families and staff for the continued positivity, support and partnership that make Banmira such a connected and vibrant school community. We look forward to another exciting fortnight ahead.
