A word from our House Captains
by Alicia Morgan, Acacia House and Chloe Mckenzie-Mcharg, Gecko House
Term 2 has amazing opportunities for house participation. In week 5 we had our annual Athletics day where everyone participated in the activities, gaining points for their house. Marbled Geckos took the Athletics Day win for the first time in the school's history! The house showed incredible teamwork, determination and spirit throughout every event, making the victory even more rewarding.
Acacia came in a close second, with Tawny coming third, and the Sugar Gliders fourth. Additionally, in another show of school spirit, there were also amazing costumes, where the Mario Kart characters won the best costume. Congratulations to the Geckos for their well-earned win and the people who participated in the Mario costumes, and of course thank you to all the everyone who got involved in the day. By cheering each other on at the athletics carnival we created lasting memories.
In Term 1 in the end of Term celebration assembly students participated in fun activities such as hula hooping, Just Dance and many more opportunities to come together as a house community. Congratulations to Tawny house for taking the lead in that event.
Later in the term we will also have our House Talent Show assembly where students from each house will be selected to show off their amazing talents. I know I speak for everyone when I say that I’m excited to see what our talented students have install for us!
Next Term we also have other house challenges coming up such as a brand-new House Chess Competition and also the House Debating Competition so stay tuned if you are interested in participating.
In conclusion, Term 2 has been filled with incredible house spirit, participation, and excitement. Thank you to everyone for making Term 2 such a tremendous and memorable term!💚❤️💜💙
A word from our School Captains
by Iris Thomson, Otis Williamson and Jesse Fesili, Glider House
Greetings! We - Otis Iris and Jesse - are your School Captains for 2026. This year has been intense, with lots of changes and events happening since the start of the year, but we are happy to report that the school community feels strong and unified.
Last month PHS held its 2026 Community Athletics Carnival at Coburg Harold Stevens Athletics Track. Besides sport, PHS's Company 2026 has been hard at work rehearsing their production of Urinetown the Musical which will be held at Darebin Arts Centre from 23 to 25 July.
Additionally, Preston High's interschool debating teams are two rounds into the 2026 competition, with many teams scoring wins and our Year 12 team preparing for their upcoming contest with Xavier College.
This year, our school has chosen to focus our annual fundraising campaign on the goal of supporting Bridge Darebin, a not-for-profit organisation based in Preston and Thornbury that runs a series of initiatives and programs aimed at supporting people in our community. Bridge Darebin was chosen not only as a way for the school to give back to our local community, but also as an opportunity for us to share information about nearby services that are available.Money raised during the school's Casual Clothes Days for a Cause can be donated through the Compass portal rather than with cash.
On a more personal note for us, Cohort 2026 had our Year 12 Formal at The Sovereign in week 2 of this term. Surrounded by all of our friends, we enjoyed an amazing night of fancy-dress, laughter and dancing. We're sure that Cohort 2026 has made memories we're all going to cherish forever.
There's so much coming up this term and next so make sure to get involved and keep up to date with all the happenings on Teams and Compass!
Literary Leaders
by Aadya Sood, Acacia House.
Literary Leaders have organised numerous activities this term such as poetry competitions featuring haikus and blackout poetry pieces. A couple of Shakespearean-themed events, namely Victorian-era insult generators and contests to see who can best translate sentences from the iconic playwright’s works into modern slang. And of course, the annual Book Week will occur toward the end of Term 3, featuring our beloved Great Book Swap and literary costume showdowns, so look out for that event.
