Message from the Principal

As we progress through a busy and rewarding term at Preston High School, we are reminded of the strength of our community and the shared responsibility we all hold in maintaining a positive, inclusive, and respectful environment. Our school thrives because of the strong partnerships between students, staff, and families, and the collective commitment to looking out for one another. This includes taking care of our shared spaces and demonstrating respect in all interactions, both within and beyond the school gates.

This term has provided many opportunities for students to engage with important contemporary issues and develop a deeper understanding of their role as active and responsible members of society. Our acknowledgement of Anzac Day provided a meaningful moment of reflection on service, sacrifice, and the values that continue to shape our community. Similarly, our recognition of IDAHOBIT Day and Anti-Racism Week reaffirmed our commitment to inclusion, diversity, and a stance firmly against discrimination. These key events are central to fostering empathy, respect, and a culture of belonging at Preston High School, and it has been pleasing to see students engage thoughtfully and respectfully in these important conversations.

Beyond the classroom, students have participated in a wide range of enriching learning experiences. Excursions across multiple subject areas have allowed students to connect their learning to real-world contexts, deepening both engagement and understanding. Our recent Athletics Day was a highlight of the term, bringing students and staff together in a celebration of participation, school spirit, and teamwork. The Da Vinci Expo was an engaging and inspiring evening, showcasing the enthusiasm and dedication students have brought to their learning this term. It provided a valuable opportunity for students to share their research, reflect on their progress, and celebrate the creativity evident in their work. Events such as these contribute significantly to building strong relationships and a vibrant, connected school culture.

We would also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the outstanding work of our teachers and Education Support (ES) staff. Across the term, staff have demonstrated an unwavering commitment to delivering high-quality teaching and learning programs, while also supporting the wellbeing of every student. Their professionalism, care, and dedication ensure that our students are well supported to achieve their best, and their collective efforts are deeply appreciated by the entire school community.

As we look to the future, planning for a new campus continues to progress. This is an exciting opportunity to shape learning environments that reflect our values and support innovative teaching and learning practices. We are committed to ensuring that our community has a voice in this process, and we encourage families to participate in the survey. Your feedback will play an important role in identifying priorities, opportunities, and the features that will best support our students now and into the future.

Looking ahead, we wish our Unit 3 and 4 students all the very best as they prepare for the upcoming General Achievement Test (GAT). This is an important component of their senior studies, and we encourage all students to approach it with confidence and focus. Families are reminded that the GAT Day is a student-free day for all other year levels as staff will be participating in their Professional Practice Day.

As we approach the end of the term, the principal selection process is expected to be finalised. This marks an important milestone for Preston High School, and we look forward to sharing further updates with the community in due course.

Thank you for your ongoing support and for the role you play in strengthening our school community.
