Principal's Report
I can't believe that we are now very close to the end of the school year. We are now very much in the space with our planning for 2025. This includes:
- 2025 Class Lists
- 2025 staffing arrangements
- 2025 Whole School Budgets
- Writing our 2025 Annual Implementation Plan (12 month strategic plan).
Recently our school leadership team engaged in a whole day of strategic planning. On this day we took the time to review a range of system data sets; particularly NAPLAN and our Grade 4-6 Student Attitude to School Survey.
This planning day was a highly productive in being able to privilege time to focus where our whole strengths and areas for improvement lie.
In NAPLAN, we have continued to maintain really strong results across the board. Next year, we will be having an additional focus on Numeracy, because our results are slightly behind our Literacy ones.
Student engagement in the classroom will also be a core focus in our Annual Implementation Plan next year. We will be particularly focusing our attention on our student's motivation and perseverance towards their learning.
In the Wellbeing space, we have been working with our THRIVE network schools to develop a consistent understanding and approach to the management and consequences for different levelled incidents (low, medium and high). Next year this work will be rolled out across the school.
We take a very data driven approach when driving whole school improvement. There have been many success stories this year and there are also aspects we need to strengthen, so we can have the greatest impact on all our students.
Statewide Transition Day- Tuesday 10th December
As part of our whole school transition program, we have our statewide whole school transition day on Tuesday 10th December. On this day our students will spend some time in their 2025 classes. This will be an important time for all students and teachers to establish a positive relationship and to set the scene for 2025.
We have been working intensively to ensure we have our 2025 staffing confirmed before this day. There might be the situation where your child's new teacher for next year might not be present on this transition day. If this is the case, you will be informed of this after the Up Day.
This is a very exciting time for everyone. I would like to remind everyone about our language and mindset regarding the placement of your child for next year. A huge amount of time has been spent putting the class lists together. Your child will be with at least one of their friendship preferences. It is important to remember that we have to balance all classes across the year level. This is a highly complex task to achieve. Please remain positive in the language and mindset you have with your child about their class for next year. The language and mindset you have will have some kind of impact on them.
Grade 6 Graduation Ceremony
Our Grade 6 team are currently working with their students to prepare them for our upcoming Graduation Ceremony. This is definitely a milestone school event and something that all our Grade 6 families look forward to. Many of our Grade 6 students have been at Langwarrin Park Primary School since Foundation level, so it is important that we give them all a worthy send off.
This year our Graduation Ceremony will be held at the Langwarrin Performing Arts Centre at Elisabeth Murdoch College.
My Long Service Leave
I would like to let you know that my last day of the school year will be next Friday (6th December). I am heading to the USA with my family for 7 weeks. Time will be spent attending NBA, NFL and Ice Hockey games... and probably experiencing every extreme ride there is at all the different theme parks.
In my absence, Deb Haddow will be Acting Principal. She and Kym will do an amazing job at ensuring that the last 2 weeks of the school year run smoothly.
I know I will see many of you next week in the playground. If I don't, I would like to thank you for your ongoing support this year. All our kids have achieved so much this year, which is a credit to you and the teachers and staff they have had across the year.
Have a very safe and merry Christmas. Enjoy the Summer period and I look forward to seeing you all at the start of 2025!
Take care,
Richard
