This week in Mathematics, the Grade 2s are calculating change in transactions with money.
VOCABULARY
Transaction: An exchange or transfer involving money, such as buying or selling goods.
Change: The amount of money returned to a buyer after a purchase when the amount paid exceeds the price of the item.
Currency: The system of money in use in a particular country (e.g., coins and notes).
Total Cost: The full amount of money required to purchase an item.
Pay: To give money in exchange for goods or services.
Count Back: A method of calculating change by counting backward from the amount paid to the total cost.
ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING
During grocery shopping, involve your child in real transactions. Ask them to help calculate the total price of items and figure out how much change you should receive from a certain amount of money.
