Reading

CURRICULUM FOCUS

This week in Reading, the Grade 2s are inferring the setting and mood of narrative texts.

VOCABULARY

Inferring is when you use clues from the text to understand something that isn't directly stated.

Setting is the time and place where a story happens.

Mood is the feeling or atmosphere that a story creates for the reader.

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Read a narrative with your child.

At the beginning ask them what they infer the setting and mood to be based on the front cover. Do this in the middle and end.

Check to she if your inference is correct!
