Learning in STEM

Middle & Senior STEM is sharing the learning taking place in their class…

Earth & Space Sciences in STEM!

In Middle and Senior STEM over the recent weeks, students have been exploring different Earth and Space Science concepts. Students have investigated, collaborated and presented information to the class and have been developing their scientific inquiry skills through various explorations.

In Year 3, students have been exploring how the Earth rotates on its axis to create day and night, using models and through role play. Students also explored how Earth orbits the Sun, and the Moon orbits the Earth.

In Year 4 students have explored the impacts of weathering, erosion and deposition on the environment and the human activities that further impact the environment, leading to discussions on how to preserve and maintain areas of significance for future generations.

In Year 5 students have spent the term exploring the eight planets within our solar system. This last week students have been able to compile all their hard work into presenting their information on a planet to the class with their class completed solar system model.

In Year 6 students have explored natural geological disasters such as Tsunamis, Volcanos and Earthquakes, and their impact on the environment and on communities. Students are conducting research into a specific natural disaster to report on to the class.

It has been a delight to see the growth in students’ inquiry skills over the year and students have outshone themselves in their efforts.
