Denise's Message
Dear Families,
Victorian Schools Garden Awards
Last week, I was privileged to attend the Victorian Schools Garden Awards, which was held at the Melbourne Botanical Gardens. Schools from different sectors across regional and
metropolitan Victoria were in attendance.
I attended with the stars of our garden work, Chloe Harper, Dylan Mehegan, our Sustainability Leaders, Isabella Tan, Sam Jugo, Evelyn Van Rensburg, and Abigail Jugo, as well as our gardening guru Rachel Phelan.
Rachel has worked throughout the year with this group of children to reconstruct our front garden, implement our composting program, and, in general, bring a bit of greenery into our community.
Rachel put in the time and effort during her holiday break to enter St Michaels into this competition, and although we didn't win the big one, we won a Regional Award, and with that came a $350 voucher to assist us in continuing to 'greenify' our school.
Congratulations to you all, and thank you for improving our school environment. We all look forward to bigger and better gardening achievements in 2025
St Michael's Staff News
We will be sad to say goodbye to our departing staff, Sarah Nicol, Indi Kuhaupt and Tameka Lewis, and the following staff at the end of this year.
Hayley Cassar Hayley has served St Michael’s well over the past 3 years. This year she completed her Bachelor of Education which is a fantastic achievement and will take up a position at Parkville College Hayley has a special interest in teaching children from disadvantaged backgrounds and will be a valuable asset to her new school, we wish her well.
Cheryl Dwyer Cheryl joined us in 2023 to focus on supporting our New Arrival children who came to Australia with little or no English, at the time we had numerous children who had recently arrived as refugees from Ukraine. She has worked closely with them and their teachers to assist in their English acquisition and also in learning how school works in Australia. The funding for Cheryl's program has finished, and sadly we will say goodbye to her.
David Whimpey David is our Speech Pathologist who currently works 1 day per week, he will be taking a year's leave in 2025 for family reasons.
Each of these staff members has served our St Michael's community with professionalism, dedication, passion, and great care for every child. We thank them for their years of service and wish them well in their new adventures.
We welcome with excitement the following staff to our school for 2025:
