Message from the College Principal

G’day everyone,

What an exciting time of the year it is!  Headstart has begun at the University Campus with lots of new students arriving both from within the college and from other schools. There was a real buzz in the air as students were heading off to their classes!

Headstart begins at the junior campuses next week and we will be welcoming our new year 7’s  for orientation over the coming weeks.  Activity days are being planned the whole school trip to Gumbuya world and College Awards day are all rushing towards us as we come to the end of term. Amazingly after such a demanding year our teachers, and support staff are going ‘flat chat’ and setting up our students for success in 2025. We are working hard to have a full compliment of staff for the start of 2025 and this is quite a challenge in the current environment.  We are optimistic that come the start of 2025 school year we will be ready and raring to go. Have a great holiday everyone!

School Yearbook

100 Word story competition

This year, we have run a college-wide competition where the goal was to write a complete story in only 100 words.

A number of outstanding stories were received this year, and a selection of the submitted stories will appear in this year’s Kurnai Yearbook. All students will receive a copy of the Yearbook in late November.

This year’s winners of the competition were:

1st Place            - Aston Richardson

2nd Place           - Rahni Mrzygloski

3rd Place            - Malakai Galea

Congratulations to the winners.

Each student has received a QBD book voucher as their prize.

As a taster of what is coming in the Kurnai Yearbook, here is Aston’s winning story.

The Living Map of Australia.

In a vast, sunlit desert, they gathered around a sacred fire. Each carried stories passed through generations, their voices blending with crackles of flames. Young Kiri sat among them, wide-eyed, as Elder Jirra began a tale of the Dreamtime, painting vivid images of ancestors and the creation of the land. As night fell, stars filled the sky, mirroring the stories woven into the fabric of their culture. Kiri, feeling the deep connection to her heritage, knew these stories were more than history they were a living, breathing map guiding their people. By dawn, she felt the warmth of their wisdom.
