Basketball
It was a competitive weekend of ISA Basketball as our teams took to the courts for Round 4. Across all grades, our players showed incredible grit and teamwork, representing the College with pride.
The 13Es led the charge with a thrilling win over St Augustine's College, narrowly edging out their opponents 20-17. The 15Bs showcased their skill, overcoming St Andrew's Cathedral School with an impressive 49-36 victory. The 15Ds and 15Es also shone, securing well-earned wins against Redlands (28-21) and St Augustine's College (53-26), respectively. The 17Bs displayed their dominance, defeating St Andrew's Cathedral School convincingly, 54-38. In the senior games, the 5th V triumphed in an internal clash with the 4th V, ending 36-31, while the 6th V had a close win over the 7th/17F team, finishing 28-22.
Though several matches were hard-fought, there were some tough losses across the board. Teams like the 13Ds, 14Bs, and 3rd V battled valiantly but narrowly missed out. These games reflect the competitive spirit of our players and the strength of the ISA competition.
Congratulations to all the teams for their efforts, and a big thank you to the coaches, referees, and supporters who made the weekend a success. We look forward to seeing more exciting basketball action in the coming rounds!
Training and Game Attendance
If you are unable to attend a session, please log the absence in advance through Clipboard so that coaches can plan accordingly. This will avoid teams being short players.
Uniform Expectations
Thank you to the students for upholding our uniform standards. A reminder that full SPX branded attire must be worn on game days, including travel to and from games. Non-uniform items like Crocs, white t-shirts, hoodies, or track pants are not permitted. Let’s continue to represent the College with pride.
Travelling teams
Wishing all the teams traveling to Bowral this weekend the very best of luck in their matches. May you play with determination and teamwork, representing the College with pride. Safe travels to all players, coaches, and supporters.

1st XI – 3 wickets for 86 (Oliver Freeman 28*, Rohan Chang 25, Luke Austion 24*) defeated Scots All Saints College 10 wickets for 85 (Lucas Gleeson 3 wickets for 26, Alex Burke 2 wickets for 19).
The 1st XI hosted Scots All Saints College in Round 4 of the ISA competition. Losing the toss and bowling, the 1st XI applied pressure and took wickets at consistent intervals in the Scots All Saints innings. This pressure never allowed the opposition to gain momentum and resulted in players batting to survive. Early wickets to Jared Fernandes (1 for 4 off 5 overs) and Lucas Gleeson (3 for 26 off 10 overs) had Scots on the back foot. Alex Burke (2 for 19 off 10) removed the best batsman and bowled 10 economical overs including 5 maidens. A sharp run-out by Lachlan Jurcevic and wickets each to Charlie Chippendale and Lachlan Jurcevic ended the innings at 10 for 85.
Rohan Chang returned to form with a good 25 at the top of the 1st XI innings supported by Ollie Freeman (28*) and then Luke Austin (24*) who bludgeoned two 6s and two 4s to seal the win in 17 overs.
2nd XI – 10 wickets for 122 (Brody Mendel 49, Archie Wragge 30) defeated by Oakhill College, 5 wickets for 123 (Oliver Costain 1 wicket for 17, Tom Costain 1 wicket for 18, Jack English 1 wicket for 20, Brody Mendel 1 wicket for 23)

SPX Green (5/172) defeated Wakehurst Red (166).
On Saturday the St Pius U14 Green team took on an undefeated Wakehurst Red team in a top of the table clash at Lionel Watts.
Henry Gardner captained the team, and decided to bat after winning the toss on a very quick outfield. Our openers, Rory Rapa and Zac Chippendale, set the tone from the start, and showed great intent at the top of the order by putting away any short balls. Congratulations to Rory who played a great knock of 50, and was ably supported by Zac who retired on 35 at more than a run a ball.
Our middle order kept the pressure on, and we finished our innings on 172 after 30 overs, helped by 23 not out by Blake Sobey. The Wakehurst Red team is known for chasing large totals, and the team knew that they had to bowl and field well to win. Our opening quicks bowled excellent spells, with the Wakehurst batsmen struggling to get bat on ball. The rest of the bowlers kept the pressure on, with Felix Keeler taking a sensational catch to dismiss the set opening batter. Rory continued his great day out, picking up another 2 wickets. The boys kept the pressure on in the field, capitalising on the building pressure by getting 4 run outs backed by sharp glove work from Henry and Rory.
The pressure was on in the last few overs, with the Wakehurst batters needing to go at about 10 an over to win and going after everything. The boys kept calm and rallied as a team, encouraging each other after every ball. Ben Costain, in particular, bowled very well toward the end.
The match went down to the final ball, with St Pius X winning by 6 runs after getting the last wicket with a run out. The students were understandably excited and sang their team song with great gusto after an impressive team effort.

Summer Tennis
It was a quiet start to the 8:00 am matches on Saturday. All students turned up, warmed up and got straight into their matches. Nathan Hon and Eric Park SPX24 were in fine form, winning 18 games to 6 against Redlands 24. Jeremy Gu SPX 22 had some great rallies in his singles match to win 6 games to 5. Paolo Mirenzi and Lucas Chong SPX 18 showed strength in the doubles winning 6 games to 2 against Redlands 18. Thanks once again to Jake and Lachlan Yu who gave up their Saturday morning to come and help out with umpiring and scoring.
The 10:00 am matches were exciting, as always, to watch. Tennis is one of the most interesting sports at the College to watch because the pairings are based on skill rather than age, so we always have some interesting pairings when it comes to height. This week was no exception. As always, the sportsmanship shown by Pius boys was exceptional.
GREEN BALL
These students continue to improve their skills each week both in play and their scoring. Logan and Lachlan dominated their match winning all 3 sets. Tom Shoudra showed his skills in his singles winning 6-3 and Isaac Fernandes and Will Graham made a great team in the doubles winning 6-0.
