The Dandenong High School Summer Concert

On the 28th of November, music students at Dandenong High School had the honour of performing in the biggest and most anticipated concert the school had ever hosted — the Summer Concert. This remarkable event brought together students from a variety of musical backgrounds, showcasing their talent and hard work. Whether students played instruments, sang, or participated in rock bands, ensembles or choirs, all the performers had the opportunity to shine.

The concert began with impressive orchestra performances, setting the tone for the evening. Students who had been practising diligently throughout the year came together to create a harmonious and moving piece. This was just the start of a night filled with spectacular performances. Throughout the evening, various musical groups took the stage. The ensembles brought together groups of students who had worked on their specific instruments and parts, playing beautiful and intricate music. Solos were a highlight of the concert, showcasing the individual talent of students who had perfected their works over months of practice. The classroom band brought a unique energy to the stage, with their dynamic and engaging performance. The choir delivered wonderful songs, and the rock band wrapped up the performances with high-energy rock music.

For the entire year, music students worked hard to develop their skills and expand their creativity. From early morning rehearsals to rehearsals in between classes to after-school practice sessions, students spent hours perfecting their pieces and supporting one another. What truly made the event special was the sense of mutual encouragement that existed among the students. Each performer was not just focused on their own performance but was also there to cheer on their peers. The spirit of collaboration and teamwork was evident from start to finish, both in the rehearsals and during the concert itself.

The success of the Summer Concert would not have been possible without the dedication and guidance of the music teachers. Our teachers worked endlessly behind the scenes to provide us with the opportunity to showcase our talents. They not only taught the technical aspects of music but also inspired creativity, passion, and a love for performing. Their efforts were instrumental in the success of the concert.

Additionally, we would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to all the students, parents, and teachers who attended the concert and cheered on the performers. Your support meant the world to us. The Dandenong High School Summer Concert was a true celebration of the talent, hard work, and dedication of the music students. The event not only highlighted the individual and collective talents of the students but also highlighted the importance of community, support, and teamwork. As we reflect on this unforgettable night, we are reminded of how far we’ve come and how much we’ve grown, both as musicians and as individuals. We hope to bring even more amazing performances like this year’s Summer Concert in the upcoming year.

Year 9 Chopping Boards!

In the Year 9 Product Design classes, students created chopping boards using designs they developed themselves.

The project began with an exploration of different types of wood and their suitability for various uses, emphasizing sustainability and food safety. Students then sketched their designs using isometric drawing techniques.

After finalising their designs, they constructed their chopping boards using two different types of wood. They made templates for their designs and proceeded to saw, cut, and sand their boards into the required shapes. Once the boards were shaped and sanded to a smooth finish, they were coated with a lovely citrus-scented wax. The results truly speak for themselves.
