Hakea House
Hey everyone, I am Keren, your SRC representative for Hakea 7.
This year has been amazing for Hakea. I would like to thank all the Hakean SRC and HLT team for supporting us all the way, for always being there every single step of the way. They worked relentlessly, hosting the glazed doughnut sale and Helping Hands, both of which worked well and were successful with the amount of funds we raised.
I especially enjoyed that Hakea came together to help with all the House funds and activities: the Hakea House photo competition and the Hakea House art competition. Mostly, I enjoyed spending time with this year’s Hakean Year 7s. They have been immensely helpful and supportive. I remember meeting everyone for the first time—it was a bit awkward, and everyone was shy—but I really enjoyed watching everyone grow. Our lesson for the Year 7s this year was that every minute counts, and I think the Hakean Year 7s have managed that well, always being early to class, wearing the right uniform, doing their best in class, choosing the right path, and most importantly, respecting each other.
I also enjoyed Athletics the most because everyone got to dress up, and the best part was the push-up challenge. It was joyous to see everyone come together to raise funds for the House. Most of all, I enjoyed the SRC meetings because they were a place where every representative could share their thoughts to make the school a better place.
This year was amazing for Hakea. We started with the swimming competitions, and it was fantastic seeing all the Hakeans supporting each other and coming second. Then we moved on to Athletics, and as I said, the best part was everyone working together to raise funds for the push-up challenge and cheering each other on.
In the middle of the year, I want to thank everyone for participating in the House Chorales. At first, I thought everyone would be too shy to go up on stage and sing, but no—we all encouraged each other. We attended every rehearsal, and as I listened, I was amazed by how beautiful everyone’s voices were. On the day, it was even better than the rehearsals. We all got up there and gave it our best, with Hakea coming first. That was extraordinary, and I would like to thank all the family members and friends for coming.
I know every Hakean is excited and looking forward to the end-of-year activities. Here’s what we have:
Year 7: Beach Day
Year 8: Enchanted Adventure
Year 9: Gumbuya World
There’s more, but if you want to find out more, check Compass or ask your House HLT. Good luck with your activities—I hope to see your gorgeous smiles when you get back from the events.
Lastly, I would like to wish everyone a good summer break and hope you check out some of the holiday activities. It was great being part of the most amazing House, Hakea, and I hope to see our House continue to show gratitude, respect and the most beautiful Hakean smiles to make Hakea even more amazing. I look forward to seeing more Green Chronicles next year too!
