Ian Giles Award

All Saint’s Ian Giles Award

What is it and what is the selection process?

The Ian Giles Awards recognises students who demonstrate leadership and citizenship

within both the school and the broader community and who display strong values, such as doing one’s best, respect for others and “mateship”, that are integral to Australian society.

The establishment of the Ian Giles Awards is an important initiative by All Saints’ school recognising the generosity of Ian Giles with his bequest to the school. The Ian Giles award is designed to encourage students to actively participate in the life of the school and local community.

The award is open to all All Saints’ students but  as the role involves leadership as a criteria students in the senior class will be viewed preferentially. The Ian Giles award is an award for the 2023 calendar only.

The process for the Ian Giles Award is All Saints’ staff nominate students who they believe fit the criteria for the award. They are then discussed by all All Saints’ staff. The School Principal then selects the award winner from the nominated students. The school Principal can use his/her discretion in choosing the method of selecting the award winner.

This year’s recipient - Gabriella Osorio-Bradley

Gabriella has been chosen to receive this award because of her particular style of leadership. Although she was in a designated leadership role as Sports Captain, it was not this badge that allowed her to demonstrate the leadership qualities that have earnt her this award. Gabriella is always willing to assist her teachers and her peers. She clarifies requests respectfully and in a manner that is never suggesting she disagrees with a task, just that she wishes to do the task in the correct way and to the best of her ability. Hers is a service leadership model which we at a Catholic school recognise as the model that Jesus Himself exhibited.

Gabriella is very unassuming and encourages others to be involved. She has led the way this year in her practice of her musical instrument and has been a great role model for all of her fellow music students. She cares for the younger students and assists them when they need her help. She volunteers to represent our school and takes her responsibilities seriously, evident through the time she takes to prepare.

In the classroom Gabriella models what it is to be a good student, showing enthusiasm and aptitude in all areas of learning. Gabriella is not afraid to make mistakes, and knows that discussing opinions and answers are a way to clarify your own and others’ thinking. Without her clear way of expressing herself and justifying her opinions her classroom would be a poorer place.

Gabriella, you have been a great student and person during your time at all Saints and have truly shone in this, your final year. You are very deserving of this award and we know that you will continue to lead wherever you go in life, regardless of whether or not you possess a formal title. Thank you for daring to be yourself and all of the care that you have shown the school and your fellow students during your time at All Saints.

Congratulations Gabriella,  on receiving the Ian Giles Leadership Award at All Saints for 2024.
