Hello from our students and teachers

Respect, Responsibility and Kindness

Hello from 1/2D!

Greetings for the day Parents/ Carers! With a warm smile, we welcome you to our class' last newsletter!

Extra-curricular:

We were so proud of our choir performance on Thursday, and coincidently it was Mrs. D's birthday as well! Below are the picture of our choir performance, and Mrs. D thinks we have grown up so much, Do you agree with her?

We sang a birthday song for Mrs. D, in our classroom as well! We really enjoyed it! ^_^

Maths:

For the past two weeks we have been revisiting our knowledge for Place Value (PV), using different PV games such as Master mind, PV Wars, etc. We really enjoyed reviewing our pasts lessons of Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication as well as Division. Could you kindly help us with a few things over the holidays, so that we are still practising our maths skills? Mrs. D said we need consistent practise for the following:

  • Revisit our skip counting by 2s, 5s and 10s.
  • To tell the time to an hour (as o'clock), half hour (half pasts) and quarter hour (quarter pasts and quarter to).
  • To look at the calendar, and to be able to tell the dates, months and the year.

Writing:

Writing has been our favourite subject these past few weeks! For the last two weeks, we worked hard on learning about Advertisements, a type of Persuasive text. We learnt that the purpose of advertisement is to make us buy something, or do something! We learnt how to make ads and we learnt the must haves of the advertisements, which are: Catchy Headline, Sub-headline, illustration/ picture, action, website and contact number and logo. We understood the purpose of each of the features.

Mrs. D always expects us to do High Quality work, what do you think? How did we go?

Guess what? We LITERALLY acted our own advertisements with our partners and/ or team members. We created our own script and became directors and performed it in front of the whole class - as actors! Mrs. D was super proud of us and she said we could be actors and advertisers!  She really wanted to buy our products!

Some of the students volunteered to showcase their commercials (on the screen) in the assembly next week. But, Mrs. D said if the audio volume is low, she will add some music at the background.

Reading:

For the past weeks we have been working hard with our partners to do our paired-fluency, it is amazing! Guess what? We are really getting better at giving feedback to each other! These are the few of the examples of feedbacks we give to each other:

  • Thank you for reading that piece of text! You have read it smoothly! (smoothly meant no mistakes).
  • You have used a lot of expressions! It was really interesting to hear when you were reading.
  • Thank you for reading the text to me, you missed a few words, and next time I know you will read better!
  • Maybe next time, kindly speak a bit clearer and pause when there is a full stop. Thank you!
  • Maybe next time, kindly read with more expressions. Thank you!

We realise when we give feedback we need to be really mindful of our tone, we need to have a smile on our face and use our kind voices, which is part of our school values!

The paired fluency helped us to read with expressions, and YOU KNOW WHAT? We had a competition with Mrs. D, to perform in front of the whole class, using our expressive reading.... You know who won? US! Mrs. D only had two wins against 18 of us!

Poor Mrs. D, she owes us a Pizza party today! woohooo! We had our tummies full of the Cheesy Pizza baked frrreessshhhly from the oven, and potato chips frrreeshh from our  school's Garden!

We sincerely acknowledge Soliman's and Lauren's never ending support for the baking!

Investigations:

Few  more weeks, we are getting through! These are our pictures from our investigation time:

Important reminder:

Next week on the 13th of Friday, we are hoisting the year's final assembly for 2024! We will be pleased to have you! We will be seated at 2:45pm, to start the assembly at 2:50pm. Thank you so very much!

Thank you for cooperatively working with me and my class this year, I am truly grateful!

Kind regards, from Mrs. D! Have a great weekend from all of us!
