Rites of Passage with Dr Arne Rubinstein - NEXT WEEK!

The Friends' School warmly welcomes you to join us for an evening of discussion with world renowned Adolescent Development and Rites of Passage expert Dr Arne Rubinstein. This event is suitable for all parents who are interested in learning more about supporting their children's development and transition from adolescent to adult. Please note that this is a parent only event.

Year 10 Examinations
Year 10 exams will be held in the week starting Monday 18 November. Monday 18 November will be a study day for Year 10 students, and no classes will run. The Senior School Library will be open as a quiet study area throughout the examination period. Any student on campus is required to sign in to the library when they are not in exams.
If your child is unwell on a day of exams, please contact the Senior School office before 10am. The examination timetable and further information is available here.
Aviation Club
Calling all aviators! The Senior School Aviation Club begins next Monday 4 November in the Opportunity Block session at 2.30pm in W109. Join us for some plane talking, aviation quizzes on:
· aeroplane general knowledge
· aerodynamics
· navigation
· flight radio
· meteorology
We will be joined by former Friends’ School students and Commercial Pilots in a Zoom Q&A session to hear insights and tips.
Climate Action & Awareness Event
Sunday 1 December | 2pm - 4.30pm
Join us for a viewing of three short environmental films, involving a Q&A panel with Tasmanian environmental activists and documentary makers. Guest speakers include Cassy O'Connor, Pete Walsh (known for his Platypus Guardian' documentary), Grassroots Action Network representative Darcy Wright, and an owner of the Eaglehawk Neck Dive Centre. All are Welcome.

IB Diploma and TCE Examinations
Our Year 12 IB Diploma students have begun their written examinations well and we thank all Senior School students for being so supportive and keeping the campus quiet. We wish TCE students all the best for their upcoming exams after swotvac next week.
We warmly invite all Year 12 students to a celebration day on Friday 1 November starting at 10.40am with our annual Year 12 Tree Planting event, morning tea, mock Assembly and a final Gathering in the Meeting House at approximately 12pm. Students may wear free dress.
Year 9 and 10 and Year 11 IB classes will run as normal on Friday.
Lighting Production – Crash Course
Do you need some extra CAS hours? Are you creative-minded and interested in lighting design and operation? Would you prefer to be behind the spotlight rather than in it? Maybe you just want to have a play or maybe you’re keen to work on performances in the future (small or large scale) No experience necessary!
Come to the Drama theatre (BAMOT) Monday lunchtimes for the (remainder of Term 4) to explore, experiment and learn how to design and operate the lights in our performance space.

Year 12 Leavers' Service 2024
Monday 25 November - 4.30pm
Family and friends of Year 12 students are warmly invited to attend the Leavers’ Service in The Farrall Centre from 4.30pm on the Monday 25 November. The Service will run for approximately 1.5 hours, and there will be refreshments available in the Middle School Foyer after. All leaving students are required to wear formal uniform.

The TCE & IB Art Exhibition 2024
Monday 18 November to Thursday 21 November- The Farrall Centre
This is a fantastic showcase of work from our TCE and IB art students. The exhibition is open during school hours (9am - 3.30pm, Monday to Thursday) from 18 - 21 November for general public viewing in The Farrall Centre at 395 Argyle Street, North Hobart.
Please note you do not need a ticket but we ask that you check in at the or Primary School Office prior to making your way to The Farrall Centre if you are not a staff member.
Quiet Study Zone
A reminder that the Senior School Library will have extended opening hours over the entire IB and TCE exam period for quiet private study. The library is open school days Mondays to Thursday from 8am until 5pm and Fridays from 8am to 4pm.
