Hello, from Carolyn.

Respect, responsibility and kindness

Hello everyone,

Maths Challenge Games! A report from our School Captain Audrey.

On Monday 28th October, Louen,  Zane, Theo, Toby, Darcy, Quinn, Gypsy, Louis and I participated in a maths games day. It went from 9:30am until 1:30pm, and we worked through numerous mathematical problems that tested our abilities and forced us to think outside of the box.

We were split into two teams; Toby, Quinn, Darcy and Louis on one team, and Zane, Theo, Louen and I on the other. Both teams were extremely challenged and had great fun working through the problems, using a mixture of methodical thinking and guesswork.

If you'd like an example: say each letter in the alphabet is worth a certain number- A=1, B=2 etc. If you find a word worth 111 points, those points are doubled, and your final score ends up at 222. Don't forget you have a time limit!

while both teams did well, one team solved a problem that only one other school team did, using incredible problem-solving skills and deductive reasoning. This led the team to finish 8th, out of 92 teams!!

Thank you so much to everyone who helped this program Come together, my classmates and I had loads of fun.

Country and Belonging residency program.

Our Grade 3/4 students, and some of our senior student leaders, are thoroughly enjoying working with Kate Stones, Christian Leavesley and Josie Gowers to explore what country and acknowledgement of country means. Josie is particularly thrilled to be here as Violet St was her primary school!!

On Thursday 21st November, the final day of the residency, there will be an exhibition at school of the works that have been created by the students. More details to come!

Class Placement requests.

Over the next few weeks staff will be deciding our 2025 grade structures and then begin the careful process of placing students in grades. We have a Class Placement Policy that outlines the process of how to submit any requests you would like us to consider. Please let me know if you would like the "Parent input' form emailed to you. Forms need to be returned to me by 11th November and requests cannot be made for certain teachers.

Dja Dja Wurrung seasons- Dum and Bundjil time. (Frog and yellow flowering time).

September-mid-November – as the weather warms, the peak flowering season for many wildflowers begins. Frosts and rainy days are often still common.

As the water warms over spring, River Blackfish and Murray Cod become more active. These are caught in traps constructed along waterways using stone and woven baskets.

Watjarang (Platypus) breed and lay eggs.

This is peak flowering season for many wildflowers, such as Murna (Yam Daisy), Gitjawil Matom (Chocolate Lily) and Bam (Bulbine Lily). Gurndi (Cranberry Heath) berries ripen and are ready to eat.

• Brushtail Possums carry their young from nests.

• River Blackfish spawn.

• The bush is bright with yellow daisies that provide a landing pad where insects can warm up on cold mornings.

• Australian Reed-warblers begin calling along creeks and rivers.

• Rainbow Bee-eaters arrive from northern Australia to nest along creek and river banks

• Large flocks of White-browed and Masked Woodswallow arrive from northern Australia and can be heard calling in the sky.

• This is peak frog breeding season – large frog choruses can be heard in wetlands and along creeks and rivers

• Black Wattle and Red Box flower.

A reminder that last day for our students is Wednesday 18th December, 3:10pm.

Have a great weekend everyone.
