Keena's Message

Deputy Principal - St Brigid's Primary School

Term 4, Week 1

Dear Families,

Welcome back for our final term of 2024. Term Four, as always, promises to be busy as we work our way towards the end of the 2024 school year. Many exciting learning and teaching opportunities are ahead, and we are committed to seeing our students continue to grow and achieve their best as the end of the year approaches. Transition programs for both our Grade 6 students and the Kinder students will be an important part of the term as we reflect on the journey of both of these groups of children.

Best wishes to staff and students for a productive, engaging, and fun term ahead!

October is the month of The Holy Rosary.

In Catholic tradition, October is the month of the Holy Rosary. St Dominic created it to assist most people in the Middle Ages who could not read or write. Through the Rosary's mysteries, people can learn about important events in the Gospel. This prayer tradition is devoted to Mary, known as the perfect disciple, a woman of unwavering faith, who said, ‘Yes’ to God when asked to be the mother of God. If your family owns a set of Rosary Beads, October would be a great time to recite all or some of them together during this particular time in the Catholic Church.

In reflecting on Mary and the prayers Catholics dedicate to her, I wonder how a prayer like the Hail Mary could be reimagined to help us understand the violence in the world and guide us toward peace. How might the example of Mary help us to discover Christ’s light in a darkened world? How might peace begin within ourselves?

Hats

Just a reminder that in following our Sun Smart Policy, students will be required to wear their school hats in Term 4.  The Bureau of Meteorology provides information about the times of day when UV levels are forecast to reach 3 or higher, meaning that sun protection is recommended for all skin types. In Victoria, UV levels regularly reach 3 or higher from mid–August to the end of April.

Students (and staff) are required to wear them whenever they are outside – this includes Physical Education lessons. Please assist your child to find their hat and bring it to school. Students will be asked to play in the shade or inside for passive play if they do not have a hat to wear outside.

Hats can be purchased through brigidsuniform@gmail.com

Kinder Visits

We had some special visitors from Manna Gum and Willowbank Kindergarten during Term 3, creating a memorable experience for both the visiting kindergarteners and our preps. This special interaction between the two groups was a great way for us to connect with our local community and provided a valuable opportunity for our young learners to connect and learn from one another.

Grass area

We are incredibly proud of our new grass area, which was laid over the school holidays thanks to the grant secured by our senior students, led by Emma Barker. A huge thank you to Paddy McGinley, Brett Shearer, Brendan Schneider, Brendan Ennis, Steph Turner, Lisa Kiely, Petrina O'Grady, and Michael Ward for their hard work in making this project a reality. For now, students will not be playing on the turf to allow it time to establish and grow without too much foot traffic.

Welcome Baby Layla

We are delighted to congratulate Liz and Lincoln on the arrival of their beautiful baby girl, Layla - a new sister for Isla Foord in MLC. We wish them all the best during this special time and look forward to meeting little Layla.

Library Update

The library has been organised, and all the wonderful books sourced through Mary Magdalene School, Chadstone, and families have been added to the shelves. It’s now ready for cataloguing using the program set up by our tech whiz, Daniel. A huge thank you to everyone who donated. At this time, we have plenty of books, so please refrain from sending any more donations.

Official Blessing of our New Classrooms & Renovated Spaces

A reminder that you are invited to join us for the Official Blessing of our new classrooms and renovated spaces on Friday 25th October.

Thank you – have a great weekend!
