Visual Arts - Term 4

"Creating, making, and exploring through imagination—where art comes to life and ideas take shape!"

Prep AW & ST: Van Gogh Sunflower Still-Life Oil Resist Painting:

Prep students recently created beautiful sunflower still-life paintings inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Using oil pastels, they explored various lines such as zig-zags, straight lines, curves, waves, bubbles, and swirls to add intricate patterns to their vases. They also learned about the watercolour resist technique, applying an assortment of papers to bring texture and depth to their designs.

1SH & 1GJ: Thiebaud Lollipop Mixed Media Art

Year 1 students crafted delightful Thiebaud Lollipop artworks using mixed media. They arranged their lollipops in balanced compositions while focusing on repeating shapes and lines. This approach ensured that their final pieces felt complete and visually harmonious, reflecting Wayne Thiebaud’s signature playful style.

2AP & 2TN: Matisse inspired Paintings

Year 2 students learned to create Matisse-inspired goldfish paintings. They demonstrated their understanding of warm and cool colours by incorporating them into the foreground elements, such as the fish, table, water, and fishbowl. Students skillfully applied smooth paint strokes to their paper and outlined their lines and shapes with black paint to create contrast.

3JA, 3AJ & 3EN: Caribbean Sunset Watercolour Painting

Year 3 students explored the concept of lines by incorporating various types into their Caribbean sunset compositions. They learned how to use space, distinguishing between foreground and background to create the illusion of depth. The class also mastered watercolour techniques, experimenting with different effects to enhance the vibrancy of their sunset paintings.

4AS & 4EK: Mona Lisa Chalk Drawings

The Year 4 class learned about Leonardo da Vinci and his painting, the Mona Lisa, to create their own Mona Lisa chalk drawings. They studied line, allowing them to carefully trace or draw from observation a detailed line drawing of the Mona Lisa. They also explored value, blending chalk pastels to achieve at least four different shades in their artwork. Additionally, they created a bold landscape background using watercolour paints.

5DG & 5ME: Georgia O’Keeffe Inspired Close-Up Flower Paintings:

Year 5 students took inspiration from Georgia O’Keeffe’s close-up flower paintings. They studied line, colour, and space to create their large-scale flower artworks. Outlining their drawings in black Sharpie or oil pastels, they brought their flower studies to life. They focused on painting with warm or cool watercolours, blending 2-3 shades for depth, and completed their pieces with pastel details, showcasing their creativity and attention to detail.

6AA, 6CB & 6JC: Observational Drawing of a Peacock Inspired by Indian Art:

Year 6 students explored the cultural significance of peacocks in Indian art. After learning three key facts about these magnificent birds, they practiced observational drawing techniques to capture the peacock’s form. Using chalk pastels, they experimented with blending and smoothing colours to create vibrant artworks, focusing on complementary colours in their backgrounds. Their success was evident in their ability to create large, well-defined shapes and apply colour theory principles effectively.

These projects reflected the creativity and growing artistic skills of all our students across year levels!
