Principal's Views
I am excited to share some highlights from the first few busy weeks of Term 4. These events reflect the talent and dedication of our students and teachers.
Year 1 Dinner
We had an amazing time at the Year 1 Dinner. I enjoyed chatting with 1CM, doing the wiggle dance with 1GJ, playing freeze with 1SH and dancing to the Ghostbusters with 1BW. The students and teachers all had such a fun time … read more about this further in this issue.
EVPS Singing Group
On October 17th, our remarkable singing group of around 40 students took centre stage at the 2024 Music Festival held at Lalor North Secondary College. It was heartwarming to see their joy for music and performance shine through. I would like to extend my gratitude to Jackie and Kerrie for working tirelessly with the students to prepare them for the performance.
MAV Games
Additionally, we are proud to announce that our teams excelled at the Mathematics Association of Victoria (MAV) Games on October 11th. They tackled various problem-solving tasks with impressive teamwork, culminating in a fantastic result. Thank you to Nathan who supported the students on the day.
Crazy Hair Day
The student leaders delivered a brilliant Crazy Hair Day on Friday with the support of Paige and Kerrie. Thank you to those families who were able to provide a gold coin donation to support our graduating Year 6 students. Enjoy the great photos further on in the newsletter.
Professional Development - staff spotlight
Last week, we had two teachers, Ellie and Aimee, who completed a Leaders in the Making course to build their leadership capability. They joined with a number of teachers within our local network to present the work that they have been leading this year. We congratulate them on their achievements.
National Award for Excellence
Finally, I’d like to acknowledge all students' and teachers' contributions to English improvement at Epping Views. Last Thursday night, EVPS was awarded the National Award for Excellence - Teaching Primary English at the 2024 Primary English Teachers Association of Australia. We are committed to continual growth for both students and teachers and it was great to be acknowledged for all of our hard work.
World Teachers' Day
Today marks 30 years of recognising the extraordinary value of the work teachers do via World Teachers’ Day. Thank you to all of the students who acknowledged this through their words, actions or simply wearing a hat today. To every one of our teachers please know that you highly valued and respected each and every day for the care you provide to our students and community.
Staffing Updates
This term we welcomed back Kim, Andy, Steph B (6MK), Jasmina(4MP) and Vicky to various roles within the school.
We also farewelled Maddy and Steph F as they embark on their family leave. We wish them all the best.
Epping Views Primary School is a proud Respectful Relationships school.
Respectful relationships education is part of the Victorian Curriculum and delivered by all Victorian government schools. It supports students to develop the knowledge, attitudes and skills needed for respectful relationships, and helps to build respect and equality across the entire school community.
Research tells us that providing respectful relationships education at school can lead to positive impacts on students’ academic outcomes, their mental health, classroom behaviour and relationships.
Our school uses the Department of Education’s evidence-based teaching and learning resources to teach our students about Respectful Relationships from Foundation to Grade 6.
The Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR) resources have 8 topics that teach students about emotional literacy, personal and cultural strengths, resilience, problem-solving, stress-management, help-seeking, gender norms and stereotypes and positive gender relations.
In each newsletter, we feature the topics covered in the classroom across all year levels supporting students in learning about Respectful Relationships.
If you have any questions about Respectful Relationships education, visit the Victorian Government’s Respectful Relationships page: https://www.vic.gov.au/respectful-relationships
Kind regards,
Rachel Griffiths, Acting Principal
