WELLBEING & LEARNING DIVERSITY
Morning Circle
-----------------------------------------------------------
Morning Circle is a foundational routine at St Joseph’s Primary School that takes place each morning before learning begins. It is designed to build relationships, foster self-reflection, and develop interpersonal skills. By gathering students in a circle, this practice sets a positive tone for the day, acting as a transition between the outside world and the learning environment. Morning circles include a greeting, sharing, group activity and news and announcements. It is a time to review values, celebrate achievements, and establish a shared rhythm for the day, promoting co-regulation and grounding. Taking these few moments to connect with students ensures they are emotionally ready to engage with learning and helps us to identify potential dysregulation so we can provide early intervention.
Morning Circles help to create a cohesive and supportive classroom climate. It gives every student a voice and encourages students to interact beyond their usual social groups, deepening their understanding of themselves and others. This practice promotes a sense of community through meaningful, structured interactions. Students have the chance to share opinions, listen actively, and reflect on collective experiences, fostering emotional growth and strengthening peer connections.
