STA BYODD Program Years 3, 2025

Year 3 students are invited to participate in our school’s BYODD (Bring Your Own Designated Device) program. This program allows students to bring a designated device to school for educational purposes in 2025. Sydney Catholic Schools has directed us to support a single type of device to ensure our staff can provide consistent and effective support. At St Anthony's, the designated device is a Chromebook. A letter will be sent home this week with information and your child's email and password to access their designated device once purchased.

Wellbeing

The other day, an 8-year-old child was acting rude to his mother.

She asked him, “Why are you being unkind? What’s up?” he just shrugged and said, “I don’t know.”

Instead of getting frustrated, she tried something different and said:

“That’s okay. Sometimes I don’t know why I feel upset either. Maybe we can figure it

out together.”

He shrugged again:

“Could it be that today felt a bit overwhelming?”

He replied, “I just wanted to stay home.”

Aha! He wanted to stay home and play instead of doing all the activities. That’s what the rudeness was about.

She told him that next time, when he feels like that, he can use this phrase: “I’m frustrated because…” They practiced together until he felt better.

The mother thought about all the ways she could have responded to his rudeness because “She is the adult,” but he needed to process something that wasn’t about her.

It was such a great reminder that all behavior is communication, and when we get curious about what’s really happening for our children, we can truly help them.

When we stop reacting to our child’s surface behavior, we can address the true reasons behind it, and that’s how real change happens.

Schoolwide Positive Behaviours for Learning - SPBL

This week we have Sr Jo Brimo (rsm JP) visit St Anthony's to assess and evaluate the critical features of schoolwide effective behaviour support across each academic school year. The Schoolwide Evaluation Tool (SET) results are used to:

  1. Assess features that are in place,
  2. Determine annual goals for schoolwide effective behaviour support,
  3. Evaluate ongoing efforts toward schoolwide behaviour support,
  4. Design and revise procedures as needed, and
  5. Compare efforts toward schoolwide effective behaviour support from year to year.

Information necessary for this assessment tool is gathered through multiple sources including review of permanent documents, observations, staff and student interviews/ surveys. The results of the SET will provide schools with a measure of the proportion of features that are: Not targeted or started, and the implementation/maintenance phases of development toward a systems approach to schoolwide effective behaviour support.

The SET survey is designed to provide trend lines of improvement and sustainability

over time.
