TOO EARLY FOR CHRISTMAS?

Too early for Christmas? Not for me! My Christmas tree was up on the 25th of October, my Spotify playlists filled with Christmas music around the same time. And yes, I am hanging out for all the new Netflix (cringy) Christmas movies.
Someone asked me the other day, why do I start so early with everything Christmas? Why do I love it so much?
I had to think about it, but I came to the conclusion that it brings me a sense of peace, in a very hectic and busy time of year.
It’s like I am infusing more of Jesus into my life and home and it gets me through the craziness of wrapping everything up for the year.
He meets me there in the crazy. Jesus is no stranger to the stress and the mess.
Right from the very start there was nothing calm or serene about Him - especially not his entrance.
Mary wasn't dressed in crisp blue linens, there wasn't baby angels floating above perfect sanitised hay bales.
He almost caused a broken engagement, he evoked a tremendous amount of political unrest. He was born in a dark, dirty cave meant for animals, to a teenage mum in a place that was not his home. Yes, some people came and bought him gifts but others hated him from the moment they heard of him.
This difficult start was God thrusting him into the world, giving Him to us, to redeem us from the broken, cold, dark places of our own lives and bringing a way for us to have relationship with God. He was born to die, wrapped in swaddling clothes just like a sacrificial lamb.
His birth, life, death & resurrection - NOT peaceful, but the result for us - TRUE peace.
He is without a doubt the best gift of all time. God’s gift of Jesus is the only gift we cannot do without.
Whether you are an early celebrator or you prefer not to think about Christmas until you absolutely must - may you find a way to bring more of Jesus into your life and may His peace abound.
Isaiah 9:6
For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
John 14:27
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
