News from Years 10 - 12
To celebrate the end of Year 12 classes, we had a range of activities to enjoy times of reflection, fun and community.
On Thursday 17 October, students and teachers (both past and present) gathered for lunch in the staffroom to reminisce key moments from the years together at MECS. A video shared by Duc Tran of the Year 8 lip sync battle was quite the highlight.
On Monday 21 October the Year 12 students and teachers gathered on the oval for a final round of staff vs student games. Given the warm day, the water fight to finish felt quite appropriate.
The celebrations culminated in the final day on Tuesday 22 October, which commenced with a Whole School Assembly. With the theme of pop culture icons, the school community was delighted with the display of costumes, performances and video reflections on show. Thanks to Acacia and Owen, our school 2024 Captains for their role in this assembly, as well as the broader Year 12 Leadership Team. The afternoon was spent together in a special excursion out to lunch and some fun community bonding time at Hijinx Hotel.
We wish our Year 12 students farewell and all the very best as they now commence their end of year examinations and life beyond school. Please support our Year 12 students at this time in prayer as they navigate this at times stressful period of transition.

On October 11, Year 12 VCE VM numeracy students, led by Ashley Ellis, went on an excursion to Cardinia Park Reservoir to learn about space, direction, and location through orienteering. This experience helped them develop skills in giving and following complex directions using printed maps and enhancing their understanding of angles, position and landmarks awareness.

A few of us from Year 11 VCE-VM chose to start a basketball competition for our Community Engagement project. Over the last 3 weeks we have organised mixed basketball teams for a mixed basketball competition for the Junior Secondary students. It was wonderful to see the Years 7-9 participants flourish in their gifted sport talents. Mixed teams mean that the first half only girls can be in key and second half only boys. The Years 7-9 have learnt team work of passing and using boys and girls on the court. It's been amazing to see everyone use the gifts God has given them in basketball. We have seen each and every one of them gain confidence and have fun.

It was wonderful celebrating with the Year 12s in their final week, and VCE VM had 2 extra days to mark finishing their year. On Thursday 24 October students had their final assessments (in place of exams) where they presented their final portfolios to a panel. This was like a job interview, and gave students experience in answering questions about their strengths and challenges. We then celebrated with an awards afternoon, where each student was spoken about and given a special award by the teachers. A number of wonderful staff came to say goodbye and offer their final encouragements to the group, so thank you to Amelia Koole, Todd Mahoney, Grace Sketcher and our fearless leader, Michelle Dempsey!
On Friday the students had the chance to enjoy some time reflecting on the year, spending time together, and Ashley Ellis shared a final devotion to encourage the students. We explored the Mornington Peninsula and it was a great opportunity to pray for the students one last time before we see them at graduation in one month!
Thanks to all the parents who have helped the Year 12 VCE VM students flourish this year. My thanks to Eriana and Ash Ellis for being such a supportive team, as well as all the other staff who helped them throughout the year. Also, Dan Chatelier deserves a medal for all the assistance he gave the students with their final projects!
