Co-curricular - Junior Sport Stage 3

As the season progresses, so does the term and very shortly we will hit a period of time where boys need to find balance between study for assessments and training and playing for the College. When we look back at many of our high achievers in Year 12, quite often we see that the boys that excelled academically also excelled on the sporting field. Proving that both pursuits can exist in the same space, working hand in hand to provide focus, respite, and social connections through busy times. As with many things, time management is the key.

Of late there have been a number of unexplained absences from weekend fixtures. Families are kindly reminded that email notification to me is needed for boys that are missing their Saturday sport commitments, even if your son has been absent on Friday from school. This allows for coaches to be notified, changes made to teams where possible and if required, notification given to the opposing team so that adjustments can be made to allow play to still occur. Not giving notification lets the team down when they are relying on all players to turn up. Any Saturday absence should be followed by a medical certificate, unless otherwise approved.

The Junior House Swimming Carnival will be held on Friday 15 November at Birrong Leisure and Aquatic Centre. All boys are expected to participate in the 50m Freestyle and Breaststroke races for their age groups. Boys that are swimming in squads outside the College or who were in the swimming squad this year would be expected to sign up for championship events. Sign-ups for championship events are available now and many boys have signed up already.

Reminders:

  • Boys are to wear their House colour shirt/sport uniform to school, with swimmers underneath.

  • Boys will catch buses from the College at 8:30 AM to Birrong pool.

  • The carnival will conclude at 2:30 PM. Boys will be bussed back to school for normal dismissal.

  • Parents/carers in attendance may take their son(s) home after signing them out with their class teacher.

  • Parents/carers are warmly welcome to come and spectate for part or all of the day to support our swimmers.

  • There is a small entry fee for spectators on the day.

  • While canteen facilities are available, it is for parents only and all boys are expected to bring their own recess, lunch, and water for the day.

  • I would ask that no parents buy food for their son during the carnival from the canteen. I look forward to an exciting day.
