Year 6 Extension Writing - Aquatica 2.0
It's the year 2250. The world is no more. A wave of devastation has hit our ecosystem. The once-living creatures of the deep have been replaced by advanced, mechanical super creatures, each equipped with abilities unlike anything ever seen before. Join us on an extraordinary journey into this new age of machine-dominated seas, where technology and nature fuse together to create a world of awe and wonder. (Kane K, 6 Red).
Madagascan Times- “This book is amazing for research and travel”.
Bob Jefferson (Creator of the Attacking Tang) - “This book is deadly accurate. It has the right mechanics, and they’ve described them perfectly.” (Luke A, 6 Orange).
In Term 3, the students in the Year 6 Writing Extension group read an amazing picture book called ‘Aquatica’ by Lance Balchin, which is about future Earth and the marine life which now rules the oceans. Each species is a hybrid of different sea creatures and mechanical features. Students were asked to design and describe their own type of Aquatica, as shown in the images below.
As you can see, the boys unleashed their imagination, deciding on the types of mechanics and special effects their Aquatica would have. Each student wrote a description for their drawing, and these were collated and published as our own picture book, named ‘Aquatica 2.0’ because our version is the new and improved version of the original ‘Aquatica’.
