I appreciate being able to welcome students back to school at the start of a new term. They are the reason why I continue to work in schools. Whether it be a simple greeting as they arrive or a more extended conversation about their holiday break, I love the opportunity to reconnect.
At the end of last term, it was a pleasure to take our Year 11 and 12 students away on camp for four days in Sydney and the Blue Mountains. We navigated planes, trains, buses and ferries, had a tour of Sydney University, a walk across the Harbour Bridge and around the Rocks and Opera House precinct, as well as a visit to the Museum of Contemporary Art.
We travelled to Katoomba for a Christian Youth Convention that brought together over 1600 young people. With music, keynotes and workshops, the students were encouraged to recognise that they are a valued creation, made by God in His image. They were challenged to understand that our lives are made complete when we honour the special relationship for which we have been called to live with Him and with each other. Students heard from other young people about their experience of following Christ in situations that are, at times, difficult for them to be open about their faith.
There was also some time for the beauty and thrills of Scenic World. Thank you to Martin Prins and Meg Riley who accompanied the group and to each of the young people for their excellent conduct throughout the trip.
Year 11 and 12 students only have a few weeks of the academic year left. They are finalising their course work and preparing for exams next month. We pray that they will maintain a sense of calm and self-discipline and will give a good account for the learning they have undertaken this year.
I am looking forward to our Maker’s Market on Friday afternoon. At the moment, the weather forecast is looking like it may be a wet day but that will not hold back our activities as we will move into the gymnasium and surrounding classes. We hope many of you will be able to join us from 4:30pm onwards. We would also appreciate some extra helpers on the various stalls. Each shift only lasts 45 min. I have had some opportunity to see some of the handy work of the students that will be on display and up for sale. We have some very talented young people among us.
There will be many other special events and activities. Please continue to monitor the newsletter and Schoolbox over coming weeks.
The Son is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation. For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.
