Year Two - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
This week students participated in an interactive KidsROAR session. Children developed a greater understanding of how important it is to ‘ROAR’… Recognise – feelings, warning signs, safe/unsafe situations and secrets, Own – their body and understand it belongs to them, Assert – have confidence to implement the ‘No, Go, Tell’ strategy, and Report – to their identified trusted adults and persist in telling them how they feel.
On Thursday we had our Socktober Crazy Sock event. Students were invited to wear crazy socks to school for a gold coin donation that went towards supporting Socktober. The teachers in Year 2 made a pledge to match the students donations. Students had the opportunity to kick and defend a soccer ball made from donated socks and plastic bags.
Next week we are learning...
Religious Education: We are preparing for our Mass (which will be in Week 6) by learning the meaning of the scripture and the songs.
Mathematics: We are learning about data. Students will using different skills to count, sort, and interpret different sets of data.
English: We will be looking at completing sentences when provided with a sentence stem containing a subordinate conjunction (since, although). Our spelling focus is the ci and si suffixes. The suffix -al means to do with, -an is a person, -ous means full of and -ion means thing of.

Auslan: This week we are learning that signers move like a person or animal to describe them. In this unit we retrieve and build on our skills in accurately moving like a person, animal or object.
Social/Emotional Learning & RRRR: We will not have a SEL lesson in Week 5 due to the shorter week.

Reminders
Just a reminder that St Thomas is a Sun Smart school and during Term 4 students are required to wear hats. Please ensure students have their name on their hat and remind them of how to take responsibility for their personal belongings. Any student without a hat will be required to sit in the shade during play time and miss out on play.
We're participating in Socktober for Mission Month to make a difference for children in need in Mongolia.
