Year One - Spotlight on Learning
Dear Families,
This week, students participated in an important KidsROAR session focused on empowering them with essential life skills. They learned the significance of ‘ROAR’—
Recognise feelings, warning signs, and the differences between safe and unsafe situations, as well as the concept of secrets;
Own their bodies and understand that they have control over them;
Assert themselves confidently using the ‘No, Go, Tell’ strategy, which encourages them to speak up in challenging situations; and
Report any concerns to trusted adults, highlighting the importance of consistently communicating their feelings. This session aimed to create a supportive environment where children feel equipped to express themselves and seek help when necessary.
Keep up the fantastic work, everyone!
The Year 1 Community.
Next week we are learning...
Mathematics: Shapes and geometry
English: Words that end in /-ed/ and subordinating conjunctions.
Religious Education: The continuation of what is a mission and helping those in need.
Auslan: This week we are learning that signers move like a person or animal to describe them. In this unit we retrieve and build on our skills in accurately moving like a person, animal or object.
Reminders:
Just a reminder that St Thomas is a Sun Smart school and during Term 4 students are required to wear hats. Please ensure students have their name on their hat and remind them of how to take responsibility for their personal belongings. Any student without a hat will be required to sit in the shade during play time and miss out on play.
