Year Five - Spotlight on Learning

Dear Families

Welcome to Week Four! 

CAMP: Please make sure to check PAM for information and permission about camp. 

If you would like the school to run a camp information session please email Esha Blake and if there is enough interest, we will run one.  

Note about Grade Six Jackets/Tops:

You do not need to bring back the form unless you are changing sizes or ordering extra. If ordering extra please include the money.  This needs to be done by 6th November.

Mathematics: In Maths we are exploring tessellations. We have made some excellent designs!

 

English: In English, we are looking at persuasive letter writing about polar bears and the effects of global warming. We are continuing to read 'The Last Bear'. 

 

Religious Education:  We are looking at the common good and Catholic Social Teachings. 

 

SEL:  In Social and Emotional Learning we are looking at emotions and we will be watching 'Inside Out 2'. We will be working on a mini 'Inside Out 2' project too. 

 

Integrated Studies: Students have been put into groups now and they are in the planning phase for their end of year performance. 

 

Auslan: We have been looking at pets, colours and farm animals. We are doing a mid term assessment.

October 2024 Camp Information Year 5.

Title of excursion/camp:Grade 5 Camp Rumbug
Educational purpose of the program:Students will be developing their personal and social capabilities. They will also be engaging in a range of learning experiences related to Health & Physical Education.
Details of supervising staff:

Teachers in charge will be Esha Blake & Kate Dourley. 

Attending teachers will include; Lyndal Mihic, Christine Bellert, Brennan Burke, Andrew McDermott & Peta Overbury.ESO support will be provided by Christian Leggas, Alanah Musco, Zac Gulavin & Emile Grimwood.

Costs:There are no additional costs for this camp.

Departure details:Depart School (basketball court)7am Thursday 5th December on the basketball court. 
Return details:Return to school (basketball court)4.45 pm Friday 6th December at school.
Distance from expert medical care:

South Gippsland Hospital, 83-87 Station Road, Foster.  (13 kilometres for camp - 14 minutes). Ph: 0356 839777.  There will be a staff member car available for emergency use.

Bass Coast Health. 235 Graham Street Wonthaggi. ( 9 kms from the beach -9 minutes). Ph:0356713333.  There will be a staff member car available for emergency use.

Teachers will call an Ambulance when required.

Accommodation arrangements:

Students will be spending the night at Rumbug Camp: 90 Dollar -Woorarra West Road, Foster North

Students will need to bring a sleeping bag and a pillow with a pillow case on it.

Travel arrangements:Students will be transported to and from the camp via Ventura Charter bus.
Activities:

Whilst at camp students will take part in a variety of activities provided by the camp such as: Canoeing, Flying Fox, Giant Swing, Initiative exercises. 

We will be attending Water Safety activities on Friday, including LifeGuards, at Cape Paterson Bay Beach under the supervision of the Wonthaggi Life Saving Club (Subject to availability & confirmation).

Dietary Requirements:Please update your child’s dietary requirements on PAM/SIMON everywhere. Students will need to bring their snack and lunch for the first day. All meals will be provided by Rumbug Camp when at camp. Meals will be provided by WLSC at the beach.  Dietary Information will be communicated to all meal providers - who have guaranteed they can cater for all requirements..

A risk management plan has been developed by staff for this program and is available for parents to review on request.

 

If your child is not permitted to attend the activity, parents will be expected to have their child at home.  No home based learning will be supplied as this will be provided at the camp. 

 

Permission forms to attend camp have been put on PAM /Simon Everywhere.  Please ensure you have filled out the details as soon as possible, so we can confirm all details with the camp and beach day provider.
