Term 4, Week 3
Welcome back families and friends! Students have settled beautifully back into school routine. Students started the term with an impromptu assembly performance! They were brave, and the performance was wonderful.
Literacy
Students are creating non-fiction books. We have been researching different topics. Cooking, animals and planet conservation are very popular choice of topic with many students. We’ve had some fantastic discussions this term as we continue to learn more about the world around us.
Numeracy
We are revisiting measurement, introducing formal units of measurement. Students have been working with predictions and what a sensible guess could be….
In number students build 10s and beyond in our place value unit.
Outdoor Play-Based Learning (PBL)
Provocations are an integral part of PBL. For example, last term we read a book about why we need bees as our provocation. Magnifying glasses, loops, and insect identification books were available during play for students to observe closely and make connections between text and world.
This term, seasonal changes in the farm are very noticeable and students are tuned in to what they are. So, the provocation this week was a discussion about what plants need, followed by the question I put to them, “I wonder if there’s an easier and quicker way to get the water to the garden beds?” Students responded by building an irrigation system! The collaboration and problem solving was so impressive.
Warmly,
Juliette
