Year Two Team News
with Steph, Joel and Rochelle
It has been a busy couple of weeks! The students are settled into their new environments and have adjusted to their weekly routines within the classroom. We have been promoting the concept of positivity and focusing on building resilience as the students walk into school each morning. Our two Willy kid topics of ‘Kindness’ and ‘Gratitude’ have been front of mind and we look forward to these two qualities being valued and celebrated in our classrooms throughout the remainder of the year. From an organisation point of view, it has been great to have some of our students bringing in their blue book every day. We ask that this continues in order to complement our reading program in the classroom.
Meet the Teacher Night:
Thank you to all the parents who attended our Meet the Teacher evening last Wednesday. It is always a great opportunity for us to learn more about your child and open up a pathway for future discussions on how to support your child.
Parent Helpers in Grade 2:
We ask that all Grade 2 parents wishing to be a parent helper this year refer to the information on Compass. Please see the ‘Annual Volunteer Registration, 2025’ post for more information. There is a requirement to update your registration every year.
In Grade 2, being a parent helper can involve a variety of things:
- Attendance on excursions and local walks.
- Attendance with our swimming programs.
- Assistance reading one-on-one with our students.
JSC Representatives
Congratulations to all the students who prepared speeches for our Junior School Council elections. We are very proud of how the students stood up and shared all the ways they would make our school and community a better place to be. Our Grade 2 JSC representatives for this year are:
2J - George O
2K - Ophelia M
2W - Jack P
Literacy: Over the next two weeks, we will be focusing on the correct use of capital letters and full stops, particularly at the beginning of sentences, for Proper nouns and for the pronoun ‘I’.
Numeracy: Students are learning about place value and addition. With the use of hands-on materials, we will be using a wide range of strategies and games to enhance our ability to accurately add and subtract numbers.
Inquiry: Next week, we will be beginning our inquiry unit or the remainder of Term One. Our unit is called ‘Where Are We and What is Around Us?’ We have been asking our students this question and discussing their views. We look forward to reflecting on these discussions and building on the students' knowledge about our local area over the coming weeks.
Willy Kids: Through the pillar of ‘Respect’, we are learning about being sociable and what that looks like both at school and in the wider community.
Until next time,
The Grade Two Team - Steph Keswick (2K), Joel Kitchen (2J) & Rochelle White (2W)
