Principal's Report
By Carolyn Serpell
Last week, we held our first Friday assembly for the year, which included presentations from all classes about what they will be doing this term. During this presentation, students and families learned about the exciting news that this year our school is participating in the 'Kids in Space' education program.
This program provides students from Year 6, the opportunity to participate in real-work learning opportunities, by introducing them to space technology and jobs within the space industry. Sponsored by the Andy Thomas Space Foundation, the program is delivered by Maker's Empire and supported by the Australian Space Agency.
A key part of the project, is for our students to work through problems and to design and produce solutions to overcome them, using a 3D printer. The Year 6 students will also mentor the Prep and Year 1 students in a small design and print project. Last week, Hayley and Ellen participated in two days of professional learning and our students can't wait to get into the project! The project will span over two terms and a showcase of learning will be held in June.
Tomorrow, 14 of our students will participate in the division swimming competition in Wodonga. Good luck to all these students and thank you to Steph, for her organisation, and all attending families for their assistance with transport and supervision.
A big congratulations to our very own Angela, who has recently published her first book! This is extremely exciting and Angela will be launching her book at the Mount Beauty Library on Saturday 1st March. All are invited to attend to hear Angela read her book and purchase a signed copy.
A reminder that nominations for School Council elections close on Monday 24th February.
Parents who would like to nominate, are asked to please complete the nomination form here.
Parent Teacher meetings will be held in the first week of March. More information about how to book an appointment will be sent home on Compass.
Families of students in Years 3-6 are reminded that on Friday March 21st, the Victorian Interschools MTB Race will be held at Falls Creek. Registrations are now open and can be completed here. The entry fee is $45 per rider, which includes a snack lunch, race plate, timing, insurance, and medals for the winners. While we will have a staff member in attendance, families are responsible for student and bike transport, bike maintenance, as well as ensurthe safety and supervision of their child.
