Art News
If you have time, please feel free to drop in to the Art Room to view the SC1 “Abstract African Animals” which we have recently finished and displayed on the back windows. Apologies for not displaying them on the outward facing windows for us all to enjoy on the way into school every day, but we have found that this display space has caused artwork to fade in the past. All families are welcome at any time to come in and admire them, please don’t be shy! These masterpieces have pop-up elements which make them a bit 3D and will not allow us to paste them in the students’ books as we usually do, so hopefully they will find a place on your wall or fridge at some stage after their current exhibition! Students observed features of traditional and contemporary African masks, such as long faces, low noses and prominent shapes and patterns to inspire the collaged composition of these animals. We had a great time delving into the box of painted paper scraps that we keep (or hoard?) for just these types of occasions!

Maths Review and Addition and Subtraction
Our students have been working hard during our daily Maths review sessions. These quick reviews are a fun and focused way to revisit important concepts we've already learnt. Our prep students participate in their own review sessions with Raquel and have been doing a fantastic job! We are also currently learning different addition and subtraction strategies. Here the preps are learning to use the "count on" strategy to solve problems. It's been wonderful to see their growing confidence and excitement when they share their thinking.
Have a great week everyone,
Chelsea and Beth

“When given the choice between being right or being kind, choose kind” R. J. Palacio
This week SC2 are finishing up their novel study on Wonder, with a celebration screening of the movie. This will provide a great opportunity for students to compare and contrast the movie to the book. Students have made some wonderful connections with the book whilst we have progressed through the unit, also building their reading skills along the way.
For those that haven’t read the story, Wonder by R.J. Palacio explores themes of kindness, acceptance, and resilience through the story of Auggie, a boy with a facial difference navigating school for the first time. The novel highlights the importance of empathy, true friendship, and standing up against bullying, while also showing the strength found in family support and self-acceptance. It encourages readers to look beyond appearances and always choose kindness.
A reminder also that next Monday (16th June) our Grade 5s and 6s will be heading off with 5/6BB and 5/6GR to BioCats in Geelong. This is a fun filled excursion that looks at science in sport. Later this week, we will send out a letter on Compass with final excursion details ready for the day. On this day, our Grade 3s and 4s will join SC1 for the day. They will have a chance to participate in this excursion in coming years.
Have a great week,
Jarrod and Liz
Family Groups
Teamwork and being a “Good Sport”
Last Friday in family groups, our team building group spent some time looking at what makes a great team member and how we can be a “good sport” in the games that we play. Students discussed how to win and lose graciously, play by the rules, accept umpires decisions and help others. We then had a chance to put this into practice with some games of indoor Gaga! All students did a great job with this and will be continually practising these great learning behaviours both in and out of the classroom.
Toastie Tuesdays!
Another reminder that Toastie Tuesdays will continue every Tuesday, for the hefty price of $1! Don’t forget to send a gold coin on Tuesdays for those that would like a toastie.
Scotsburn Intercampus Travel At times, Scotsburn students will be transported between campuses in order to attend classes, assemblies, special days and events. On most occasions, transport required through the day will be by bus and occasionally private car for smaller groups of students. Parents may be asked to drop off or collect from the Buninyong campus if sessions are at the beginning or ending of a day.
We will always let you know of any upcoming travel arrangements via our newsletter, Compass, or via phone for smaller, more specific travel arrangements.
If you ever have any questions or concerns regarding intercampus travel, please contact your child’s teacher. |
