Grade 4 Cultural Day
Last Friday, our Year four students connected with Aboriginal culture through meaningful hands-on experiences as part of their unit of study called, ‘The Story of Us’.
They made damper by an open fire, following traditional cooking methods that have been used for thousands of years. The experience of mixing, kneading, and cooking over the flames gave students a connection to ancient Aboriginal techniques.
Students created traditional woven Australian animals using natural materials and time-honored weaving methods that reflect the incredible artistry of Aboriginal culture.
A highlight for students was using Aboriginal symbols to tell stories about important things in their lives. This beautiful tradition showed students how art and storytelling come together in Aboriginal culture, where symbols carry deep meaning about personal experiences and connection to country.
The cultural day gave students a deeper appreciation for the richness of Aboriginal culture and the world's oldest continuous traditions.
Take a look at the photos to give you an idea of the day’s activities.
