Music Scholarship Program Update
Over the past few weeks, we have been using the newsletter to provide an update with respect to our five scholarship programs. This week we are featuring the Music Scholarship. Thanks to Steve Skilbeck for this update.
The Music Scholarship for 2025 which is run as a band has eight students in it this year. Milaan is our guitarist, Ava is on keyboards, Neve on bass and James is on the ukulele. Anoushka is our djembe player, Bronte is our vocalist and Euphemia and Jess are our multi-talented musicians going from vocals to percussion to guitar!
We are hoping to have a small set of songs ready to play by the end of the year. The songs will range from the 70’s to current day, so something for everyone. As individuals the band brings song ideas, and we vote for the ones we like – it’s quite the process! It’s also great for the students to understand how a band works. Whether actually playing music or not they must communicate respectfully and listen to each other to be successful.
So far, the band has played Zombie by the Cranberries at the Fete as well as at our final assembly of term one. We will be playing a new song at the final assembly of term two.
The Music Scholarship is a wonderful opportunity for everyone, and we would all really like to thank the Coxall Family for making it possible. Look out for the band at our next whole school assembly at the end of the term, where they’ll be performing their new song.
A GLEAMING BUS
It’s amazing what kids will do for a little time out of class. On Friday afternoon we had a skilled team brave the chilly conditions to give our bus the once over. They did a fabulous job and I’m sure they’ll be volunteering to clean the car at home from now on…maybe not.
FRIDAY ASSEMBLY
Assemblies are such a good way of sharing information, building a sense of community, celebrating achievements and giving students a chance to present in front of an audience and showcase their talents.
Assemblies also present a great opportunity to have some fun and in recent weeks Mr Rodgers and the school captains have introduced a ‘games’ segment to Buninyong campus assemblies, which the kids have been enjoying.
It’s always nice to see lots of parents, grandparents and siblings come along to assemblies and last week we had a large crowd come at the whole school assembly at the Buninyong Campus. Well done to our Scotsburn parents who are very good at supporting the students by attending Scotsburn campus assemblies on Friday afternoons.
