Principal's Message

Welcome to the start of Week 3 of a nine-week term. I hope the world is treating you and your loved ones well.

I am a measurement guy. I like to measure impact to know the effectiveness of actions. I am also a huge proponent of kindness. I think it, and manners, are the oil that makes the machine of community turn.

But how do you measure kindness?

I know it when I see and feel it. But, to quantify it becomes challenging.

I saw it last Friday when so many of our wonderful families wished me a Happy Principal's Day. I don't do the job for personal accolades. In fact, it is difficult for me to take compliments. I just want to do the work and for my efforts to be supportive of students and staff. That's the reward - happy and achieving people. But it is kindness that sets SMPS families apart from anything I have come across in education. I am paid to be bias towards our magnificent school, but truly, the values presented by your humbleness and smiling faces are a shining beacon for your children to replicate in their own lives.

Your children are immensely talented and clever. These traits, whilst admirable, can often mutate into arrogance if left unchecked. Again, the way parents at SMPS approach the world ensures their children remain humble.

I have redacted the name for privacy - but this home made card below says it all....

I hope you have a happy week. Your children make the staff happy - myself included. Well done to you all for teaching kindness so well.
